Job Title: Full Time Residential Advocate
Hours: Full Time: 32 hours per week
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Residential Advocate position works directly with survivors of domestic and sexual violence in an emergency shelter setting in Alpena, Michigan. Residential Advocates are responsible for answering the 24 Hour Help and Support Line, working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence to accomplish their self-determined goals, maintaining a clean and safe working environment, providing supportive listening, cleaning, sorting donations, and completing intakes of new residents. Being able to lift survivor personal belongings up to 15-35 pounds, navigate stairs, and sort donations are the essential functions of this position.
Residential Advocate Day Shift Key Responsibilities: The Residential Advocate is the primary case specialist responsible for the case management of survivors in the emergency shelter and hotel/motel programs. This role leads case coordination while collaborating with other Residential Advocates to support survivors in reaching their goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned
- Serve as the lead advocate and case specialist for assigned emergency shelter and hotel/motel survivors
- Conduct weekly survivor meetings/check-ins focused on self-identified goals and housing plans
- Provide advocacy including safety planning, benefits assistance, legal and medical advocacy, financial stability resources, education, healing options, and community referrals
- Support with court accompaniment when necessary; travel may be required
- Collaborate with other Residential Advocates to support survivor goals, including assisting with intakes, orientations, and daily support
- Provide support to survivors participating in the hotel/motel program throughout the five-county service area; travel may be required
- Work with survivors toward positive exit outcomes and conduct exit conversations
- Provide case updates during weekly meetings with the Emergency Shelter Manager and Emergency Services Coordinator
- Ensure intake documentation is completed and uploaded in EDB
- Maintain knowledge of and connections with community resources for timely referrals
- Conduct inventory of household supplies
- Ensure rotation of food/household supplies occur on a regular basis.
- Ensure day-to-day operations occur in compliance with the agency’s health and safety procedures.
- Perform additional program tasks as requested.
- Maintain professional collaborative relationships within and outside of the agency.
- In compliance with state and federal confidentiality and legal guidelines, maintain the strictest level of confidentiality.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- While survivorship is not a requirement for employment with Hope Shores Alliance, we value the contributions survivors make in doing this work and we celebrate our shared collaboration in the movement.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must successfully complete intra-agency domestic violence and sexual assault training within the initial 30 days of employment.
- Must possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable engaging in challenging conversations and comfortable engaging with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record as well as provide proof of valid insurance.
- Must pass Criminal History, Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry and State and National Sex Offender background checks.
