About the Role
American Midwest Manufacturing is seeking an experienced mid to senior level CNC Machinist to join our growing team. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing CNC and manual machining equipment used to manufacture, modify, and repair precision components supporting pumps, mechanical seals, and rotating equipment.
This position is ideal for an experienced machinist who enjoys challenging work, complex setups, repair machining, and taking ownership of projects from start to finish. Successful candidates should possess strong machining knowledge, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently while supporting team objectives.
Key Responsibilites
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC mills, lathes, and manual machining equipment
- Machine, modify, and repair precision components supporting pump and rotating equipment repairs
- Review work orders, engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine machining requirements
- Perform complex setups, tooling selection, fixture adjustments, and process optimization
- Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment to verify quality and tolerances
- Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maximize efficiency and quality
- Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and improve processes
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and machines
- Document completed work, inspections, material usage, and production activities accurately
- Collaborate with mechanics, fabricators, engineering, and production teams to support operational priorities
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment while following safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist in mentoring less experienced machinists when needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school education preferred
- Minimum 5+ years of CNC machining experience with both CNC and manual machining equipment
- Strong experience with CNC mills, lathes, setups, tooling, and machining processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical work instructions
- Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and precision machining practices
- Proficiency using precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and related inspection tools
- Ability to read and perform basic G-code edits preferred
- Experience with repair machining, rotating equipment, pump components, or industrial equipment preferred
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while supporting team objectives
- English proficiency required for operational communication and workplace safety
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
Preferred Skills
- CNC and manual machining including mills, lathes, grinding, and part finishing
- Fixture setup and process optimization experience
- G-code reading, editing, and machine adjustments
- Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and repair techniques
- Mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience

- Computer literacy and familiarity with machining software applications
