Mid-Florida Pathology is currently seeking a laboratory assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and willing to work in a fast-paced work environment. Previous laboratory experience is preferred however we are willing to train the right candidate.
Job Description: Histology Lab Assistant

Job Summary:
The Histology Lab Assistant will perform a variety of tasks related to the preparation and distributions of histological specimens for microscopic examination, routine maintenance of the equipment used for duties such as specimen preparation and filing of blocks, slides, and reports.
Major Responsibilities/Activities:
· Responsible for all routine daily laboratory tasks as communicated by management
· Communicate efficiently and cordially with coworkers via phone, email, in-person, etc.
· Notify manager immediately of any outliers or equipment failures
· Work closely with Histology Technicians and Pathologist.
· Slide staining and coverslipping
· Assemble cases for screening
· Accession specimens for processing.
· Responsible for inventory control and notifying supervisor when supplies are needed.
· Maintain clean work area
· Maintain logs/records
· Perform procedures according to written policies and follow the prescribed quality control measures
· Read, understand and follow all applicable SOPs
· All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:(Include education experience special skills and licenses or certifications required.)High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Preferred Work Experience:
· 1 year of Anatomic Pathology experience preferred.
· Anatomic Pathology experience is desirable but not required.
· Training in histology techniques is preferred but not required
· Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to both work both independently and collaboratively
· Ability to follow directions.
· Must be an organized, detail oriented team player
· Desire to be part of a team effort
· Minimal Problem solving.
· Maintains specimen identification and integrity throughout all processes of the department.
· Must begin and complete all assignments with minimal supervision.
· Must be able to collaborate with other departments and colleagues for problem-solving.
· Good with computers and data entry.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
· Finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Handling of specimens and supplies.
· Large amounts of standing, sitting, bending, twisting, and reaching. Lifts and carries objects up to 30 lbs.
· Work in a chemical environment.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
