Summary:
The Leader in Training (LIT) position supports convenience store operations by filling in for Store Managers, Assistant Store Managers, Food Managers and occasionally Guest Service Representatives in emergency situations. Likewise, the LIT position transfers to a regular Store Manager position once training is completed, satisfactory performance is achieved, and a Store Manager opportunity becomes available. This position requires a broad base knowledge of all store types including those with a deli, lube center and car wash. The Leader in Training assists in fulfilling all duties normally assigned to the Store Manager and works closely with the Store Manager & District Manager to keep them informed of site operations. The LIT position is considered an internal promotional opportunity from Assistant Store Manager or Guest Service Representative (with previous management experience). Leader in Training positions are transferred to any store tier that requires a Store Manager position to be filled.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Support the Store Manager in recruiting, supervising, interviewing, hiring & training new team members to ensure high performance and excellent Guest service.
- Oversee the daily workflow & operations of the department/store.
- Provide and/or support constructive & timely performance reviews.
- Provide continuous leadership and coaching to all team members, routinely shaping positive & constructive feedback to ensure the team is set up for success.
- Handle and/or support discipline and termination of team members in accordance with company policy.
- Required to be available & work on weekends as needed by the District Manager on call.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent Guest service and an experience worth repeating through demonstrating the Company Values: 1) Guest Ready, 2) Honor & Value, 3) Quick, Clean & Convenient, 4) Ownership, 5) Team-Focused.
· Respond in a timely manner to District Manager, leadership, and Guests.
· Greet Guests upon entering the store and thank them for their business upon exit.
· Promote fuel discount program, specials, and promotional offers as determined by operations leadership.
- Maintain cleanliness & appearance inside the store; including restrooms, trashcans, doors & windows, floors, rugs, counters & office areas, merchandise shelving, food service areas and beverage bars areas.
- Maintain cleanliness & appearance outside the store; including entrances, parking lots, trashcans, doors & windows, porches & sidewalks, fuel islands & valets.
· Complete required reports on Dashboard (safe and lottery audits, cup and cigarette rollups) timely and accurately.
- Control inventory and protect Company assets according to policies; follow proper policies on all age-restricted merchandise.
· Perform fuel price changes and assist in monitoring competition.
- Check-in vendors and receive fuel deliveries.
- Operate Point-of-Sale, lottery, phone & money order equipment.
· Support high levels of Guest satisfaction by addressing Guest concerns and resolving complaints effectively.
- Ensure the store is secure and follows all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
· Participate and support in-store promotions and marketing activities.
· Successfully manage inventory to include receiving deliveries, checking for accuracy, and organizing merchandise.
· Ensure proper cash handling procedures, including cash register operations, deposits, daily sales reporting, and maintaining accurate financial records.
· Report maintenance issues and report Guest incidents and team member injuries appropriately.
- Support and facilitate organizational changes, continuous improvement and communication.
- Store positions, including LIT, are responsible for legally selling age-restricted products such as alcoholic beverages, tobacco, e-cigarettes and lottery. This requires strict adherence to age-restricted sales policies.

- 50% travel is required: day travel on a regular basis, overnight travel on occasion.
- Irregular hours and weekends will be required according to the needs of the business. Must be willing to work a variety of shifts to include days, evenings, midnights, weekend & holidays as required.

- Must be willing to complete and maintain tobacco certification, TABC certification (every two years) and Food Manager certification (every five years).
- Must have valid driver license, clean motor vehicle record, and personal auto insurance.
Education & Experience:
· High School diploma or equivalent
· 1 year of Assistant Manager experience within Toot’n Totum preferred
· 2+ years of prior retail management experience
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand, walk, sit, talk/hear, push/pull, climb, bend/stoop, crouch/kneel/crawl, taste/smell, balance, twist/reach, carry, grasp with hands, squat, drive and use keyboard.
· Lifting Requirements: Lift/pull up to 50lbs daily.
· Hearing Requirements: Ability to hear alarms, communication equipment, verbal instructions, and machinery.
· Cognitive Requirements: Basic reading, writing and math skills. Basic speech skills; must be able to speak, read, write & understand the English language, clerical tasks, memorization, analytical skills, function under stress & make independent decisions.
· Vision Requirements: General vision requirements in addition to close vision (<20 inches), Distance Vision (>20 feet), color vision and peripheral vision.
· Noise Levels: Normal (<85dB) noise levels.
· Repetitive Motion(s): Regularly & repetitively use of both feet and both hands.
· Environmental Factors: General working conditions include wet/humid/steam conditions not created by weather, slippery floors, hot grease, working with mechanical parts and machinery including machinery that contains moving parts, toxic/caustic chemicals, concentrated soaps & cleaning solutions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat/cold, confined areas, pressurized equipment, Oxygen/Acetylene, Cylinders, CO2 Cylinders, electrical equipment, possible flying debris, flashing/strobing lighting and work around vehicles in motion.
