This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Part-Time Interpreter who will be all-in on our mission and who will facilitate effective communication by interpreting spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL), ensuring the accurate and complete conveyance of meaning and intent. The position supports access to classroom instruction and related academic activities in accordance with professional interpreting standards.
EDUCATION:
Required:

High School Diploma or GED.

One (1) year of college coursework and demonstrated ability to sign using traditional ASL sign language skills.
Preferred: Associate’s Degree.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
Required: Certified interpreter or willing to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of hire. (ASL Sign Language.)
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Some experience working with hard of hearing/deaf individuals using ASL interpreting skills.
Preferred: One (1) year of experience working in a school or college setting.

Skill in maintaining pace with classroom instruction to ensure timely access to information.

Ability to interpret for a wide range of academic courses as needed to support student access.

Ability to maintain concentration and accuracy for extended periods of interpreting.

Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, disability services staff, and students.

Ability to attend and interpret scheduled classes consistently and punctually.
Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.

10 Amarillo College Pay Grades, (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.
Work Conditions: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, Business Objects, and various other educational applications.) Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
