Position Overview
Fuller and Sons Construction is looking for a practical, hands-on Software Developer to help us build better systems, automate repetitive work, and use technology to improve how our company operates.
This position will include real software development and coding, but it will not be limited to sitting behind a computer writing code all day. The successful candidate will work directly with employees throughout accounting, project management, estimating, equipment, materials, safety, HR, and field operations to understand problems and develop workable solutions.
We need someone who can take a real business problem, understand how the work is currently being performed, and then design, code, implement, and support a better solution.
What You Will DoSoftware Development
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain internal software applications.
- Write clean, secure, organized, and maintainable code.
- Build web applications, mobile-friendly tools, dashboards, databases, APIs, and system integrations.
- Develop custom tools for construction operations, project management, equipment tracking, materials production, safety, HR, and accounting.
- Create automated workflows that reduce manual entry, duplicated effort, and administrative delays.
- Maintain source code, technical documentation, testing procedures, and version history.
- Troubleshoot software issues and improve existing applications.
- Protect company information by following appropriate cybersecurity and access-control practices.
Systems and Data Integration
- Connect existing software platforms so information can move accurately between departments.
- Build and maintain integrations using APIs, databases, data imports, and automated workflows.
- Develop reporting systems and dashboards that give managers timely, useful information.
- Improve the quality, consistency, accessibility, and security of company data.
- Work with outside software providers and technology vendors when necessary.
- Evaluate whether a problem should be solved through custom development, existing software, or process improvement.
Artificial Intelligence and Automation
- Identify practical opportunities to use artificial intelligence within the company.
- Develop AI-assisted tools for reporting, document processing, data analysis, estimating, scheduling, and internal communication.
- Create appropriate safeguards for confidential company and employee information.
- Evaluate new technologies based on reliability, security, cost, and measurable business value.
- Train employees to use approved AI and automation tools responsibly.
User Support and Implementation
- Meet with employees to understand their work, challenges, and technology needs.
- Translate employee needs into clear software requirements and development plans.
- Test new tools with actual users before company-wide implementation.
- Train employees and provide understandable documentation.
- Respond to software problems and correct issues in a timely manner.
- Track whether new technology is producing the intended results.
- Support basic business-technology needs and coordinate with outside IT providers when appropriate.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated software-development and coding ability.
- Experience developing applications using at least one modern programming language.
- Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL, APIs, and data integration.
- Experience with source-control systems such as Git.
- Ability to diagnose problems, research solutions, and work independently.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and nontechnical employees.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and follow work through completion.
- Willingness to learn how construction work is performed in both the office and the field.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to visit company facilities and jobsites when needed.
Preferred
- Experience with Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C#, .NET, SQL, or similar technologies.
- Experience building web applications with frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, Django, Flask, or ASP.NET.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Power BI, Power Automate, Azure, or related business platforms.
- Experience creating APIs and connecting third-party software systems.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, application deployment, and cybersecurity.
- Experience building AI-assisted applications or using large language model APIs.
- Experience in construction, manufacturing, logistics, equipment management, accounting, or another operations-focused industry.
- Experience supporting mobile applications or technology used by field employees.

Physical and Work Requirements
This position primarily works in an office environment but will occasionally visit shops, plants, yards, and active construction sites. The employee must be able to work at a computer for extended periods, communicate effectively in person and electronically, and safely navigate company facilities and jobsites.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
