Business Development Representative // Marketing Consultant
This job is for you if...
You've been the person who actually closes home services marketing deals. Not the SDR who books the meeting and hands it off. Not the account manager who inherits the relationship after the contract is signed. The closer. The one who gets on the phone with an HVAC owner in Houston or a roofer in San Antonio and walks them through why their current marketing isn't working and what you'd do differently.
Maybe you've been doing this at an agency where leadership kept moving the comp plan around and capping your upside. Maybe you've been an account executive at a software company selling into home services and you're tired of pitching a tool when the real problem is strategy. Maybe you've worked inside a home services business and you know exactly what makes an owner pick up the phone, what makes them hang up, and what makes them sign.
Whatever the path, you know the home services buyer. You know they're skeptical. You know they've been burned by agencies before. You know they care about phone calls and booked jobs, not impressions and reach. And you know how to talk to them in a way that gets you to “yes.”
What this role actually is
You own new business. You generate outbound leads and you work the inbound leads using our already existing system of automations, case studies, and skill files to make your job to close much easier. You close them. Then you hand the relationship to an account manager and go find the next one.
Your week is roughly split between inbound and outbound, with the heavier weight on inbound. We invest in trade shows, content, and a marketing engine that produces qualified inbound conversations. You work those leads, qualify them fast, run the discovery, build the proposal, and close. On the outbound side, you'll work a list of home services targets across the state and attend a few tradeshows throughout the year, supported by an outbound automation platform that you'll help manage and refine alongside our team.
This is a closing role. You're not booking meetings for someone else to close. You own the deal from first conversation to signed agreement. Once the deal is closed and onboarding kicks off, an account manager takes over the day-to-day, and you stay focused on pipeline.
Your KPIs are simple: meetings booked and closed revenue. You'll have a quota tied to both.
What makes someone good at this
You actually like selling. Not “doing demos.” Selling. You like the pressure of a quarter, the rhythm of pipeline, the feeling of moving a deal from cold to closed. If selling stresses you out, this isn't your role.
You know home services. You've sold to plumbers, HVAC companies, roofers, pool service businesses, electricians, garage door companies, restoration shops, or similar. You understand how these owners think, what their margins look like, what their seasons look like, and what they actually want from a marketing partner. If you haven't sold into home services but you've worked at a home services company, that counts too.
You understand digital marketing well enough to sell it. You don't need to be a paid media expert or an SEO technician, but you need to be able to look at a prospect's Google Business Profile, their website, their ad presence, and tell them what's broken and why it matters. You should be able to talk credibly about local SEO, paid search, paid social, lead tracking, and review management without pretending to know more than you do.
You follow up like it's your job, because it is. The deals that close are the ones that get worked. You don't let leads die. You don't forget to send the proposal. You don't ghost a prospect because they pushed back once. You stay on it.
What you don't need to worry about
You won't be cold dialing all day with no support. Inbound is the heavier side of the pipeline, and our team funds trade show attendance where you'll meet qualified prospects in person. On outbound, you'll be working with an automation platform rather than building lists from scratch in a spreadsheet.
You won't be running the accounts after the close. Once you sign a deal, our account management team takes the relationship and runs with it. You stay focused on what you're good at: closing new business.
If you don't have experience across every home services vertical we serve, that's fine. A roofer's marketing and an HVAC company's marketing have more in common than you'd think. If you know one well, you'll pick up the others fast.
About Building Brands Marketing
We're a marketing agency built around local service businesses. Home services is our core: HVAC, plumbing, roofing, electrical, garage doors, pest control, restoration. We also work with law firms, dental practices, med spas, veterinary clinics, and other businesses where the revenue comes from the phone ringing and appointments getting booked. It’s all the same KPI: Lead Generation.
We manage the full marketing mix for these clients across paid media, organic search, social, email, creative, and more. Budgets range from $1,500 to $20,000+ per month. Because we work with dozens of similar businesses in the same industries, we've already seen what works and what doesn't before your next prospect even gets on the phone. That accumulated knowledge is what you'll carry into every pitch.
