General Skilled Trade Laborer
Purpose Statement
The role of General Skilled Trade Laborer is to create a clean, orderly, and safe environment by performing a wide variety of grounds and maintenance activities on building campuses. Our team ensures each campus is attractive, sanitary, and safe for students, staff, and visitors. Duties may include performing daily cleaning operations, assisting and preparing our grounds for activities and campus events, and working collaboratively with the custodian team, maintenance team, building team and activities team.

Hourly Wage: $21.00/hr. - some overtime required - may include athletic events
Hours: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED, preferred

Ability to read basic operating instructions

Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in basic techniques of maintenance and grounds care

Demonstrates a reasonable degree of computer proficiency

Turf management experience, preferred

Pesticide Application License or willingness to obtain within the first 90 days of employment

Pool Operator Certification or willingness to obtain within the first 90 days of employment
Essential Functions
-
Management and maintenance of all district sports fields and accessories.
-
Cleans and cares for campus grounds for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.

Setup and maintenance of irrigation equipment on athletic fields.
-
Monitors activities in and around work areas for the purpose of preventing injuries and ensuring site safety.
-
Performs minor, job related, maintenance on campuses and grounds equipment, for the purpose of ensuring proper functioning and usability of items.

Prepares facilities for daily operations for the purpose of ensuring building and grounds are operational and hazard free.
-
Mows and cares for campus lawns and school grounds.
-
Adjusts, repairs, and services lawn mower equipment, as needed.

Assists with snow removal, as directed by the Maintenance Manager/Operations Department.

Substitutes in the absence of any custodian or maintenance personnel and/or any maintenance position, as needed.

Serves on the on-call rotations, as directed by the Maintenance Manager/Operations Department.

Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.

Secures facilities and grounds (e.g. doors, gates, alarms, lights, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability.

Informs site personnel for the purpose of providing information and direction regarding activities, safety issues and/or proper maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Attends meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
Other Functions

Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.

Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing appropriate personnel for resolution.

Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Working Environment
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. This position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment. This position requires that the individual is able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform position functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.
