Job Summary
The Assistant Manager supports the General Manager in overseeing all aspects of the restaurant and event spaces and plays a key role in executing the Altar brand’s vision. This position is instrumental in maintaining strong Front of House and Back of House operations while ensuring excellent guest experiences and supporting financial performance.
The Assistant Manager helps elevate hospitality standards, supports team development, and ensures smooth daily operations at this local brewery, coffee house, and event destination. This role focuses on execution, team support, and operational consistency while contributing to overall restaurant success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Operational Support: Assist in managing daily operations, ensuring all departments align with company goals. Support implementation of processes and improvements to enhance efficiency and control costs.
- Execution of Strategy: Support the General Manager in executing operational and business strategies. Work with department leads to ensure goals are being met and standards are maintained.
- Financial Support:Assist with monitoring budgets, daily sales, and cost controls. Support inventory management for BOH and bar operations. Work with kitchen leadership and bar leads to help control food, beer, wine, and spirit costs. Help identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve profitability.
- Team Leadership:Lead by example on the floor. Assist in training, mentoring, and motivating staff. Help foster a positive, accountable work environment focused on hospitality and teamwork. Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management efforts.
- Performance Monitoring: Observe daily service and team performance. Provide feedback to staff and communicate opportunities for improvement to the General Manager.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with the General Manager, Head of Kitchen, Event Coordinator, and other leaders to ensure smooth communication and execution across all areas of the business.
Additional Duties
- Social Media & Marketing Support: Collaborate with the marketing team, floor managers, and General Manager to support promotions, events, and guest engagement initiatives. Assist with executing marketing strategies to drive traffic and repeat business.
- Event & Banquet Operations: Support execution of private events and event space operations. Work with the Event Coordinator to ensure events run smoothly and meet guest expectations.
- Food Safety Compliance:Ensure adherence to health and safety standards. Support maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
- Equipment & Facility Oversight: Report and assist in addressing maintenance and equipment needs. Coordinate with appropriate personnel to ensure timely resolution.
- Customer Service: Actively engage with guests, address concerns, and ensure a high level of satisfaction. Support building strong community relationships through hospitality and presence.
- Scheduling Support: Assist the General Manager with scheduling and shift coverage as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in restaurant or hospitality operations, preferably in a brewery, bar, or full-service restaurant
- Strong understanding of food, beer, wine, and spirits
- Supervisory or leadership experience with a focus on team development and training
- Knowledge of inventory control, food safety standards, and basic financial principles
- Familiarity with POS systems (Toast preferred)
- Experience supporting events or banquet operations is a plus
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to handle challenges effectively
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Required Experience & Knowledge
We are looking for someone who can step in and operate immediately in a high-volume environment. The following experience is required:
- High-Volume Restaurant Experience: Experience working in environments where multiple tables hit at once with the ability to maintain control, organization, and service standards under pressure.
- Previous Brewery Experience: Must understand beer service, draft systems, and the pace of a brewery environment.
- Beer Knowledge: Maintain and continue developing knowledge of beer. Support staff education efforts and contribute to enhancing guest experiences.
- Wine Knowledge:Comfortable speaking about wines with guests and supporting a developing, more artisanal/natural wine program.
- Cocktail Knowledge: Solid understanding of classic cocktails, builds, and bar flow. Ability to support and guide bar service when needed.
