LA Trash Junkers is a veteran-owned junk removal and property cleanout company dedicated to respectful and stress-free cleanouts. We specialize in handling complex, sensitive jobs, including estate cleanouts and severe hoarding situations, with discretion and professionalism.
Our Mission: We believe in giving back. We support families experiencing organ transplants through donations generated by our affiliated thrift store, The HodgePodge LA.
The Role
The Property Cleanout, Junk Removal & Estate Services Technician serves as the primary operational representative of LA Trash Junkers' values. Technicians are entrusted with safely and efficiently executing the removal, loading, and transportation of items from diverse residential and commercial properties while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and client respect.
Crucially, this role often involves working in challenging, sensitive environments, including properties affected by hoarding and unsanitary conditions. Successful Technicians will proactively demonstrate sensitivity, discretion, and a strong commitment to safety, operational cleanliness, and the company's restorative mission.
Schedule & Flexibility
This is a part-time, on-call position. Hours are not guaranteed and will vary based on job volume as cleanouts and removal jobs come in. Technicians are contacted directly when work is available.
Core Operational Responsibilities
- Removal and Logistics Management: Strategically and safely remove and organize bulky items, furniture, debris, and refuse from various residential and commercial job sites. This includes responsible loading, securing, and operating company vehicles and related equipment for safe transport.
- Resource Stewardship & Disposition: Conduct accurate and organized sorting of recovered items at the disposal site to maximize returns through appropriate donation, targeted recycling efforts, and compliant disposal.
- Professional Client Engagement: Represent the company in all public interactions—with clients, team members, and the public—by maintaining a consistently courteous, professional, and non-judgmental demeanor, particularly in sensitive situations.
- Collaborative Execution: Work effectively within a team structure to complete cleanouts of varying sizes and complexity, adhering to strict time constraints and quality standards.
- Technology Utilization: Reliably utilize personal mobile technology and designated job scheduling software to manage assignments, log hours, and communicate effectively.
- Estate Inventory Support: Collaborate within a 3-person inventory team to document property contents using company-designated inventory software, with hands-on training provided by leadership. Assist with sorting and separating items in preparation for cleanout or sale.
- Estate Sale Support: Photograph items and help prepare properties for estate sales, working alongside our Estate Sales Lead. Support scheduled buyer pick-up windows following the sale with professionalism and care.
Qualifications & Attributes
- Character & Professionalism: Trustworthy, dependable, and respectful, with the ability to work comfortably alongside clients, vendors, and other professionals. A strong, hardworking work ethic is essential.
- Capacity for Rigorous Labor: Demonstrated ability to perform frequent standing, lifting, bending, and moving of heavy objects. Must be able to safely lift and maneuver items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Environmental Resilience: Comfort and willingness to perform tasks in diverse settings, including outdoor, cluttered, or dusty spaces, and challenging environments such as properties affected by hoarding or unsanitary conditions.
- Professional Reliability: Proven record of reliability, punctuality, and unwavering commitment to maintaining a polished and professional presence.
- Licensure: Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record is required.
- Related Experience: Prior experience in junk removal, professional moving, light demolition, or general manual labor is considered advantageous but is not mandatory.
Work Conditions
This is a physically demanding role requiring resilience and focus. Technicians will be trained in appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and comprehensive operational training to safely navigate and complete jobs in potentially confined, cluttered, or hazardous environments.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Rate: $20 - $25 per hour, Depending on Experience
- Overtime: Eligible for overtime pay per California labor law.
- Growth Opportunity: While formal benefits are not currently offered, this role provides genuine opportunity for growth as LA Trash Junkers continues to expand including the potential to take on more specialized responsibilities in estate inventory and estate sales, with future full-time and advancement opportunities as the company grows.
