Job Overview

Middle Way Cafe has served West Anchorage with love since 1994. Our award winning organic and hand crafted foods are complemented by our full bakery, juice and smoothie bar, and of course our organic espresso bar! We are looking for an experienced Kitchen Manager to co-lead our team with our current Kitchen Manager. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in culinary arts, be skilled in the execution of high service standards, and be an energizing and engaging leader. The successful candidate will exhibit ownership of all aspects of BOH operations. An even, positive, and mature demeaner with a pro-active, ready-for-work attitude is a must.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage the entire kitchen operation, ensuring smooth daily workflow and high standards of food quality and presentation
Develop innovative menus that reflect current culinary trends while maintaining consistency and cost-effectiveness
Supervise, train, and motivate kitchen staff, including cooks, prep cooks, dishwashers, and catering personnel
Oversee food production processes to ensure timely service without compromising safety or quality standards
Manage inventory control by monitoring stock levels, ordering supplies, and minimizing waste through efficient food handling practices
Enforce strict adherence to food safety regulations and sanitation procedures to maintain a safe working environment
Coordinate with front-of-house teams to ensure seamless service during peak hours and special events such as banquets or catering functions
Implement shift management strategies to optimize staffing levels and operational efficiency
Oversee catering operations, including menu planning for events and ensuring proper execution of large-scale food service
Maintain detailed records of food costs, inventory movements, and compliance documentation to support operational excellence

Qualifications

Proven experience in restaurant management as a chef with strong leadership skills in a fast-paced environment
Extensive culinary experience with a focus on high volume fast-casual and catering
Demonstrated expertise in food preparation, menu planning, and kitchen management techniques
Familiarity with inventory management systems and cost control practices within the food industry
Knowledge of food safety standards and certifications required by local health authorities
Supervising experience with the ability to lead and develop a diverse culinary team
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in food handling, quality assurance, and shift management
Additional background in hospitality or restaurant experience with a passion for delivering exceptional customer service
Ability to multitask effectively while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety in the kitchen
