Account Manager | Thompson & Co. Public Relations | Anchorage, AK
A proud 2026 Inc. "Best Places to Work" recipient!
Thompson & Co. Public Relations is hiring an Account Manager to join our Anchorage team. We're one of Alaska's largest and most respected PR agencies, with more than 25 years of experience helping clients across travel and tourism, telecommunications, resource development, nonprofits, education, and state and local governments tell their stories and make an impact.
We're a tight-knit crew that believes good work happens when people genuinely enjoy who they work with. Many of our team members have been here a decade or more, and they'll tell you our culture is the reason. That commitment to our people has earned us recognition as a Forbes "Agency of the Year" (2021), a PR News "Best Place to Work" (2020), and, most recently, a 2026 Inc. "Best Places to Work" recipient.
If you're an experienced communicator who thrives in a fast-moving environment, enjoys mentoring others, and wants to lead meaningful work in Alaska, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll do
No two days at T&C look the same. As an Account Manager, you'll lead client engagements and mentor junior team members, all while working alongside a collaborative team to support a diverse roster of clients with everything from day-to-day communications to high-profile events. Your work will include:
- Leading client projects across multiple industries, scopes, and timelines, ensuring goals are met or exceeded.
- Cultivating and deepening client relationships by anticipating their needs and crafting tailored strategic communication plans.
- Coordinating events, from press conferences to rallies to trips across rural Alaska.
- Implementing both traditional and digital public relations strategies that engage and influence key stakeholders.
- Building and maintaining relationships with local, state, and national journalists, and influencers to include members of the business community.
- Monitoring media across print, broadcast, digital, and social channels for client opportunities.
- Writing compelling press materials, pitches, and other client content, and providing clients with insightful updates and strategic guidance based on the latest industry developments.
- Mentoring and providing day-to-day guidance to junior account staff, reviewing their work and helping them grow professionally.
- Managing client communications calendars and deliverables, keeping projects on track and on budget.
- Staying at the forefront of the news cycle, both in Alaska and across client industries.
What you bring to the table
We care more about how you think, lead, and communicate than whether your resume checks every box. Strong candidates will bring a combination of the following:
- A background in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field, whether through a degree, work experience, or both.
- At least five years of experience in PR, communications, or a closely related field, with agency experience preferred.
- A proven track record of managing complex projects, overseeing multiple accounts under tight deadlines, and leading junior staff members effectively.
- Strong writing skills and comfort working across a range of formats and audiences, with in-depth knowledge of AP style.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and an instinct for what resonates online.
- Experience pitching media and building or managing press lists, including relationships with local, state, and national journalists.
- The ability to plan, brainstorm, think creatively, and problem-solve with minimal direction, while juggling multiple projects and deadlines.
- Experience in or knowledge of travel/tourism, education, telecom, healthcare, public affairs, or government is a big advantage.
A few more things you should know
We welcome candidates whose experience comes from outside the traditional PR path. If you've worked in journalism, policy, government communications, or another creative or public-facing field, your perspective may be exactly what we're looking for.
- This role has real room to grow. T&C is an active, expanding agency, and the people who thrive here tend to take ownership of their work, lead by example, and bring energy to the team. We nurture talent and aim to promote from within, including into senior leadership roles.
