Position Overview

The Group Facilitator supports clients in their recovery by leading therapeutic and educational group sessions focused on substance use disorders. This position plays a hands-on role in engaging clients, documenting progress, and fostering a safe, structured environment. In addition to group work, the facilitator conducts individual check-ins to support treatment goals and collaborates closely with the clinical team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups (e.g., relapse prevention, coping skills, mindfulness, trauma-informed care, CBT/DBT skills)

· Conduct regular client check-ins to reinforce progress and address immediate needs

· Document group sessions, attendance, and client progress in accordance with facility and regulatory standards

· Foster an inclusive and respectful environment that promotes peer support and recovery

· Manage group dynamics and utilize de-escalation techniques when needed

· Collaborate with clinical and medical staff to ensure group content aligns with individualized treatment plans

· Participate in treatment team meetings and provide input on client progress

· Maintain knowledge of recovery models, trauma-informed practices, and evidence-based interventions

· Uphold confidentiality and follow HIPAA regulations at all times

· Attend trainings and participate in continuing education as assigned

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· At least 1 year of experience in behavioral health, social services, or substance use treatment

· Strong understanding of addiction, recovery models, and trauma-informed care

· Excellent communication, group management, and documentation skills

· Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

· Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and professionalism

· Ability to manage crises or emotionally charged situations calmly

Preferred Experience, Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

· Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field

· Certified Addictions Treatment (CAT) certification

· Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or equivalent credential (in progress or completed)

· Prior experience facilitating structured groups in a treatment setting

Relevant Working Conditions and Physical Demands

· Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods during group facilitation and client interactions

· Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds (e.g., program materials, group room setup)

· Ability to engage with clients in high-stress or emotionally intense situations

· Regular use of computer systems for documentation and reporting

· Position may require evening or weekend group facilitation depending on program needs

· May involve exposure to emotionally charged client situations that require professional boundaries and therapeutic de-escalation

· Collaborative team environment within a healthcare or behavioral health treatment setting
