What you will be doing:
As a Public Health Specialist 1 (PHS 1), you provide expert technical consultation to health care professionals and the public across Alaska. In this capacity, you will drive the effective delivery of immunization services through comprehensive needs assessments and programmatic evaluations. The PHS 1 is responsible for designing and implementing specialized health objectives while developing the policies and clinical protocols that govern them. Serving as a primary resource for the Alaska Immunization Program, you will provide advanced support for VacTrAK the State of Alaska’s Immunization Information System (IIS), the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, and the Alaska Vaccine Assessment Program (AVAP), ensuring data integrity and the seamless management of state-supplied vaccine inventory

The mission of the Division of Public Health is to protect and promote the health of Alaskans. The Section of Epidemiology keeps Alaskans safe from communicable diseases; injuries; as well as environmental, occupational, and other health hazards.
The Alaska Immunization Program’s mission is to prevent and control vaccine preventable disease by:

Providing vaccines to health care providers at no charge;

Providing an immunization information system for use by health care providers and schools to maintain consolidated immunization records for Alaskans of all ages;

Ensuring school and childcare compliance with immunization regulations;

Providing immunization education and training for health care providers and the general public;

Coordinating surveillance and control efforts for vaccine preventable diseases; and
-
Supporting efforts to increase vaccinations for all Alaskans.

This position is located on the 5th floor of the Frontier building in Anchorage at 3601 C Street. The office is situated with views of the Chugach Range, Mt. Denali, and the Cook Inlet with Cuddy Family Mid-Town Park nearby. There is ample covered parking, a high level of building security, ample vending machines for drinks/snacks, and nearby restaurants and stores. The working environment and culture is friendly, flexible, and supportive, and staff are currently working hybrid schedules (remotely and in office).

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles, methods, and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or experience in public health, health administration, nursing, epidemiology, health sciences, health education, community health, emergency medical services, psychology, the social sciences, the biological sciences, social work, biostatistics/statistics, education, or a closely related field.

“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
