Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Electrical/Controls Technician is a key, hands-on contributor within the Equipment Engineering team, responsible for the installation, commissioning, sustainment, and continuous improvement of advanced Unimelt reactor systems and related equipment. This role spans electrical wiring, controls support, field troubleshooting, and mechanical support. The ideal candidate is a self-directed, execution-focused professional who takes ownership of outcomes and thrives in environments where initiative, accountability, and action drive progress.

This position requires an experienced technician capable of working independently, making sound technical decisions in the field, and contributing directly to the successful build and deployment of complex reactor systems.

Key Responsibilities

As a core member of the Equipment Engineering team, this role is responsible for maintaining, installing, and commissioning reactor and process equipment across development, pilot, and production environments. The technician operates with general technical direction from engineering leadership while exercising independent judgment in execution.

Assemble, modify, install, commission, and repair R&D and production-scale equipment
Perform hands-on troubleshooting and support of system controls utilizing Allen-Bradley PLCs and FactoryTalk software
Execute process line installations utilizing Swagelok, VCR, ANSI, sanitary and other industrial piping, tubing, and fitting systems
Lead automation and controls projects to improve reactor and process equipment performance, coordinating closely with engineering for design intent and review while independently executing build, installation and testing
Install and integrate process equipment into facility utilities and infrastructure
Travel up to 50% to support off-site pilot and production facilities, including reactor builds, installations, and commissioning activities.
Wire electrical equipment per schematics, wiring diagrams, or engineering instructions
Build, install, and modify electrical panels, cabinets, and related enclosures
Build, install, and modify gas panels and associated delivery systems
Install, inspect, and repair reactor sub-systems and mechanical assemblies
Execute inspections and assemblies in accordance with engineering procedures while identifying opportunities for improvement
Communicate progress, risks, schedule impacts, and technical issues back to engineering leadership with clarity and ownership
Manage parts, tooling, and consumable inventory
Maintain organized, safe, and efficient work areas in accordance with 5S principles

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate Degree in engineering technology, mechanical or electrical engineering or related technical discipline
5+ years of hands-on experience as a skilled tradesperson or technician, with emphasis on industrial mechanical, electrical, piping, or HVAC
Proven experience developing, modifying, and troubleshooting ladder logic and PLC-based control systems utilizing Allen-Bradley hardware and FactoryTalk software in industrial or process equipment
Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical, electrical, and controls related issues
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with engineers, technicians, and process personnel
Strong mechanical aptitude with practical problem solving skills
Clear, concise communication skills both verbal and written
Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite
Desired but not required
Background building and/or maintaining vacuum or pressurized systems
Knowledge of industrial processes and equipment such as valves, pumps, blowers, conveyors, and instrumentation
Prior experience supporting equipment commissioning, FAT/SAT, or field installations
