Full Job Description

We have an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Biomaterials) in the Translational Research Lab within the Department of Cardiology at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Our lab is an interdisciplinary team with a broad mission to develop new biomaterial-based technologies to address unmet needs in cardiology and critical care, with an emphasis on translational impact.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of novel material platforms for gas delivery and/or ultrasound imaging applications, targeting clinically relevant problems with potential for high near-term impact. This position offers opportunities to work across material synthesis, characterization, biological testing, and translational study design.

Required Qualifications

PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Chemistry, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline
Strong background in organic, polymer and/or hybrid organic-inorganic materials synthesis, including multi-step synthesis and/or controlled polymerization techniques
Solid understanding of materials characterization techniques
Demonstrated record of research productivity

Desired Qualifications

Experience in colloids and interfacial phenomena (e.g., foams, emulsions, nanoclusters, self-assembled monolayer)
Experience with tissue culture and biological assay techniques
Experience working with small or large animal models
Familiarity with ultrasound imaging, device fabrication, or 3D printing

The ideal candidate is creative, motivated, detail-oriented, enjoys problem-solving at the interface of materials science and medicine, with a genuine passion for designing new materials, formulating and testing hypotheses, and pushing projects toward exciting, high-impact results. Interpersonal skills and an interest in translational or entrepreneurial research are highly valued.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation will follow Harvard Medical School guidelines for postdoctoral fellows and includes a competitive benefits package including health and dental insurance.
