POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Waste Acceptance Specialist

Department: Waste Acceptance

Reports to: Waste Acceptance Manager

Location: Andrews, TX Facility Worksite

Summary

This position is responsible for document review of all incoming and outgoing licensed hazardous and non-hazardous waste received by the facility to ensure compliance with DOT, IATA and NRC requirements. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may receive occupational exposures to ionizing radiation that As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) and within regulatory limits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Daily review of all shipping paperwork to ensure compliance with DOT, IATA and NRC requirements for safe transport of all waste in certified containers.

· Assists Technical Services Project Managers in resolving discrepancies and inadequacies.

· Plans activities relating to the characterization and transportation of radioactive/mixed waste and hazardous/non-hazardous waste to and from the facility.

· Conducts a weekly review of scheduled loads.

· Assist Inventory Control Specialist to ensure inventory stays in compliance with all federal and state permits, licenses, and regulations.

· Apply and reinforce the skills learned through human performance training to prevent personal errors and errors by other team members.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B.S) is preferred, two years environmental waste experience is a plus or am equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully. An individual should have knowledge of Development software; Internet software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Other Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge or ability in the following areas; Resource Conservation and Recovery Act(RCRA); Department of Transportation(DOT); Texas Commission on Environmental Quality(TCEQ); Texas Administration Code(TAC); Understanding of Federal, State and Facility policies and regulations.
