Job Description

The Compressor Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of vapor recovery and natural gas compression equipment. This role involves monitoring compressor systems, adjusting operational parameters, and ensuring equipment operates reliably to support continuous facility operations. The operator performs routine inspections, assists with maintenance activities, and helps troubleshoot mechanical and control system issues.

The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to safety, and the ability to identify operational irregularities. Operators are responsible for maintaining accurate operational records and supporting safe work practices while working in field environments that may include rotating shifts and varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

Operations & Monitoring

Operate and monitor natural gas compressors, vapor recovery units, dehydration systems, and associated equipment.
Adjust operating parameters to maintain optimal pressure, flow rates, and operational efficiency.
Conduct routine inspections and record equipment readings to identify irregularities or performance issues.
Monitor system performance and ensure equipment operates within established parameters.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Perform minor maintenance tasks and assist with repairs on compressors, engines, and related equipment.
Identify mechanical or process-related issues and communicate them to maintenance personnel when necessary.
Assist in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Support preventative maintenance activities to maintain system reliability.

Safety & Compliance

Follow established safety policies and procedures at all times.
Maintain awareness of operational hazards and ensure safe work practices.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety guidelines.

Reporting & Documentation

Maintain accurate logs of operational data, inspections, and maintenance activities.
Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or abnormal operating conditions.
Utilize digital systems and tools for operational reporting and documentation.
Communicate operational updates with supervisors and team members.

Skills

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
Knowledge of rotating equipment and gas compression systems
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and technical manuals
Familiarity with instrumentation, process controls, and compressor systems
Basic understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
Ability to identify operational issues and escalate appropriately
Experience using digital reporting systems and operational logs
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work independently and maintain situational awareness in field environments

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required
Technical or vocational training related to mechanical or industrial operations preferred
2–5 years of experience in gas compression, oil and gas operations, or industrial maintenance
Experience working with compressors, rotating equipment, or process systems preferred
Familiarity with instrumentation and process control systems
Certifications such as OSHA 10/30, H2S Awareness, First Aid/CPR, or DOT Operator Qualification (OQ) are preferred
Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and remote locations
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb, bend, and stand for extended periods
Ability to safely wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)

Pay: $30-$35/per hour

Location: Andrews, TX

Schedule: 7/7 rotation

Pay: $60.55 per hour
