The Accounting Manager plays an essential role in leading and executing accounting initiatives to provide financial support for Team Ag Ed partners: Iowa FFA Foundation, Iowa FFA Association, Iowa Professional Agricultural Student Organization (PAS), Iowa Association of Agricultural Educators (IAAE), and Iowa FFA Alumni & Supporters.

What will I be doing?

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. This position manages the monthly close process, supports budgeting and forecasting, coordinates audits, and provides financial information to leadership to support sound decision-making. The Accounting Manager maintains accurate financial records, monitors restricted funds, and ensures compliance with grant, donor, and regulatory requirements.

Specifically, you would be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

· Manage daily accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations

· Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes

· Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation

· Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

· Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, deposits, and other financial transactions

· Maintain and improve internal accounting controls and financial policies

· Establish and maintain efficient accounting procedures and workflows

· Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and reporting capabilities

· Provide training and guidance to administrative finance support on financial policies and procedures

· Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports

· Analyze financial results and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement

· Assist with preparation of financial reports for leadership, committees, and Board of Directors

· Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes

· Maintain accounting records related to restricted and unrestricted funds

· Support grant accounting, reporting, and compliance requirements

· Assist with preparation for annual report

· Assist with preparation for annual audits, including schedules and supporting documentation

· Support preparation of IRS Form 990 and other required filings

· Ensure that state and federal regulatory obligations, as well as professional standards, are met

· Other duties as assigned

Minimum job requirements?

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field

· 4+ years of progressive accounting experience

· Experience working with nonprofit organizations

· Experience with grant accounting and restricted funds

· Experience with general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and reconciliations

· Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls

· Knowledge of nonprofit audit requirements and Form 990 reporting

· Experience with payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions

· Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Blackbaud Financial Edge)

· Working knowledge of CRM fundraising databases (advanced Bloomerang experience preferred)

· Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

· Some experience supervising accounting staff preferred
