The EEG Technologist performs routine EEGs, LTMs, as well as more advanced testing (per program guidelines); recognizes clinically significant events and patterns; follows policy and procedures regarding critical test results; communicates with team members. Monitors LTM patients (on-site), evaluates, annotates, and classifies ictal, interictal, and paroxysmal events from EEG/video data. Recognizes physiologic and non-physiologic artifacts.
- Perform head measurement/marking according to the international 10-20 measuring system and accurately place and secure electrodes.
- Acquires satisfactory EEG recordings according to ACNS guidelines.
- Can fix electrodes, perform activation procedures such as HV and Photic, disconnect and move patients, and set up rooms.
- Performs routine and portable EEGs on any patient independently.
- Performs ECOG, ictal-SPECT, PET, WADA, surgical EEG language and motor mappings, LTM, Ambulatory and ICU video EEG monitoring under general supervision.
- Can recognize basic EEG state changes (awake/drowsy/ sleep)
- Has advanced EEG pattern and seizure recognition knowledge.
- Participates in EEG rounds and EEG reviews.
- Meets the ASET's National Competency Skill Standards.
- Trains new staff/students.
- Performs measurement check-offs.
- Has hospital training to alert supervisor and/or activate hospital systems, such as rapid response, cardiac arrest, etc., per established protocols when encountering patient clinical issues.
- Follows the seizure action plan.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Electroencephalograph Technologist Registered
- High school graduation with basic science course work or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- R.EEG T. Certification by the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic Technologist
- Reasonable experience as an EEG Technician
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients and healthcare team members
- This classification requires Primary Source Verification
Electroencephalograph Technologist Non-Registered
- High school graduation with basic science course work or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Basic knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the body
- Eligibility or certification by the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic Technologist. Must obtain credentials within the eligible pathway timeframe, calculated from the date of hire to continue employment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients and healthcare team members

Work schedule will be assigned by the Pediatric Epilepsy Technical Supervisor / Coordinator. Work schedule may include shifts during the 24 hour, 7 day/week operations of the LTM, EEG and Epilepsy Laboratories. Participation in 24 hours on call schedule and overtime as assigned. Mandatory overtime may be possible.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
This position is eligible for a $10,000 sign-on bonus, providing an additional financial incentive for qualified external candidates who accept the offer. Additional details will be provided during candidate interviews.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
