About PodLab Studios
PodLab Studios is a premium podcast, video, and content production studio serving businesses, creators, professionals, and media clients throughout Metro Detroit and beyond.
We operate out of a growing multi-room creative facility in Westland where we produce podcasts, video shoots, social content, livestreams, interviews, branded content, and events.
We are a small, fast-moving company, which means this is not a job where you sit in one lane all day.
You will learn how the entire studio operates, from the front desk to the camera setup to the client experience.
What this role actually is
This is an operations-first role with hands-on production support.
Your main responsibility is helping make sure the studio runs smoothly, clients are taken care of, rooms are ready, communication is handled, and the little things do not fall through the cracks.
You will also work directly around cameras, lighting, microphones, podcast equipment, editing, social content, and live production.
Roughly 60% studio operations and administration
You may be:
- Answering studio calls, emails, inquiries, and messages
- Booking and confirming sessions
- Managing and updating the studio calendar
- Greeting clients and helping them get comfortable
- Keeping client paperwork, booking details, invoices, and follow-ups organized
- Preparing rooms before sessions
- Resetting rooms after sessions
- Keeping the studio clean, stocked, organized, and client-ready
- Ordering supplies and tracking what the studio needs
- Helping keep projects and client information organized
- Following up on tasks so things do not get forgotten
- Helping the owner stay organized and focused on higher-level work
Roughly 40% production and creative support
Depending on the day, you may also:
- Set up cameras, lights, microphones, monitors, and production gear
- Help build, move, or reset podcast and video sets
- Run a locked camera during a shoot
- Monitor basic equipment during recording sessions
- Help prepare podcast rooms before clients arrive
- Assist during livestreams, interviews, video shoots, and events
- Organize footage and project files
- Pull basic social clips from recorded content
- Make simple edits in Premiere, Resolve, CapCut, or similar software
- Capture behind-the-scenes content
- Help keep PodLab's social channels active
You do not need to know everything about production on day one.
You do need to be curious, dependable, coachable, and able to learn quickly.
What a real day may look like
You might start the day by walking through the studio and making sure every room looks right.
Then you check the day's bookings, answer overnight emails, confirm a client appointment, and make sure their room is prepared.
Next, you help set up microphones, lights, chairs, and cameras for a podcast session.
When the client arrives, you greet them, help them get settled, and assist with getting the production rolling.
Between sessions, you may answer emails, update the calendar, organize files, cut a few short clips from yesterday's shoot, or post a behind-the-scenes video.
At the end of a session, you help strike the set, reset the room, coil cables, clean up, and prepare for the next client.
Some days are mostly operations.
Some days are production-heavy.
Some days involve both.
You will probably do very well here if

- You want a quiet desk job with the same tasks every day
- You only want to edit
- You only want to shoot
- You do not want to clean, reset rooms, move equipment, or coil cables
- You need someone constantly telling you what to do next
- You are uncomfortable talking with clients
- You dislike being around cameras, production equipment, or creative people
- You are looking for a remote position
This role is admin and operations first, with production and creative work built into it.
Physical requirements
This is a working production studio.
You should be comfortable:
- Being on your feet for extended periods
- Moving chairs, tables, light stands, and production equipment
- Lifting up to approximately 50 lbs when needed
- Using a ladder when appropriate
- Helping build, reset, or strike studio setups
- Working occasional evenings or weekends for special shoots or events
Requirements
- Reliable transportation to Westland, MI
- Local applicants strongly preferred. Ideally within 10–15 minutes of the studio in Westland due to occasional schedule changes, early setups, and evening sessions.
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Basic computer and calendar skills
- Comfortable using Google Workspace or similar tools
- Reliable and punctual
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Comfortable working directly with clients
- Willingness to learn production equipment and workflows
- Ability to work approximately 20–25 hours per week to start
- Some flexibility for occasional evening or weekend sessions
Nice to have, but not required
Production experience is helpful, but we are open to training the right person.

Film, photography, and media students or recent graduates
If you studied film, photography, broadcasting, media production, or a related field, we encourage you to apply.
A lot of what you have already learned carries directly into this environment, including lighting, lenses, exposure, composition, production etiquette, equipment handling, and working with people in front of a camera.

Where this role can go
We are continuing to grow PodLab Studios and expand the types of productions, clients, events, and spaces we operate.
The person in this position will have the opportunity to learn the studio from the ground up.
Over time, a strong person in this role could grow into responsibilities such as:
- Running studio sessions independently
- Managing a room or production area
- Training new staff
- Coordinating studio schedules
- Supervising shifts
- Managing client experiences
- Taking on greater production responsibility
- Eventually helping manage a studio location
