JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for facilitating cross-cultural communication through the process of converting one language into a different language to ensure meaningful and accurate communication between two parties who do not speak the same language.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides consecutive interpretation services at one-on-one or small group meetings.
- Provides simultaneous interpretation service at larger meetings or when requested at small group meetings.
- Sight translates documents upon request during meetings.
- Maintains interpreter ethics at all times.
- Researches relevant issues and technical terms as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.
Experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Knowledge of school system terminology.
- Outstanding customer service.
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written language skills for both English and another language.
- Ability to accurately interpret conversation and presentation.
- Knowledge of advanced grammar and usage in both languages.
- Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child’s education experience.
- Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to response to the needs of diverse learners.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Language Requirements
- Bilingual/Biliterate professional English as well as various languages native or near native required.
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
- Successful completion of AACPS Interpreter Training Part 1: Basic Interpreter Skills and Ethics Part 2 (for work in special education) Interpreting in Special Education Settings issued by AACPS required.
- Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
- Daily access to reliable transportation.

- Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
