We are a Midwest-based railroad bridge contractor specializing in the repair, rehabilitation, and maintenance of railroad bridge structures. Our work includes the repair and replacement of steel bridge components, concrete encasements, bearing repairs, culvert repairs, structural steel repairs, and other bridge maintenance and construction services.

Position Summary
The Bridge Carpenter performs a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair activities on railroad bridges and related structures. This position may involve carpentry, concrete, steel, demolition, equipment operation, and general construction duties.
The ideal candidate will have previous construction and/or railroad experience, be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and be willing to travel as required for projects throughout the Midwest.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation work on railroad bridges and related structures in accordance with project specifications.
- Assist with concrete, carpentry, steel, and general construction activities.
- Load, unload, organize, and transport tools, materials, and equipment.
- Prepare work areas, including staging materials and clearing debris.
- Assist with the erection, staging, inspection, and dismantling of scaffolding.
- Prepare and level ground and work surfaces for scaffolding and other temporary structures.
- Place, push, pull, shovel, finish, and vibrate concrete as required.
- Perform basic carpentry, forming, demolition, and concrete repair work.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and other construction equipment safely and effectively.
- Perform general cleanup, including sweeping, washing, loading, and removal of construction debris.
- Follow all company, railroad, client, and job-site safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on project needs.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The successful candidate should possess:
- Previous experience in construction and/or the railroad industry.
- Experience with one or more construction trades, including carpentry, concrete, structural steel, or general construction.
- Ability to safely operate power and non-powered hand tools and construction equipment, including:
- Concrete vibrators
- Pumps
- Drills
- Jackhammers
- Forklifts
- Skid loaders
- Power buggies
- Other job-related tools and equipment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- A positive attitude and professional approach when working with coworkers, clients, and railroad personnel.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Dependability, integrity, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions, safety procedures, and project specifications.
Physical and Work Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Perform physically demanding construction work.
- Lift, carry, push, pull, and move construction materials and equipment.
- Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Work at heights and in elevated work areas.
- Work around heavy equipment, active construction sites, and railroad environments.
- Travel as required based on project locations and schedules.
- Maintain reliable transportation to and from assigned work locations or designated meeting points.
Candidates should reside in Missouri or a surrounding Midwest state and be willing to travel for project assignments.
Employment Requirements
Candidates must:
- Have prior construction and/or railroad experience.
- Provide valid and verifiable employment references upon request.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Be able to pass a federal background check, as required by our railroad clients.
- Meet all applicable company, client, railroad, and project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are not required but may qualify candidates for additional compensation:
- Valid Class A CDL with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Certified Crane Operator credentials.
- Additional experience or certifications related to construction equipment, railroad work, structural steel, concrete, or bridge construction.
