Structural Steel Quality Control Inspector: Visually inspects and verifies fabrication processes to ensure that qualifications are maintained during fabrication in accordance with the drawings and specifications. If issues arise, being able to troubleshoot problems and implement corrective actions. Need to be able to perform the required tasks in a timely manner, with great attention to detail, and good communication skills with the production managers.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
· Checks/Verifies dimensions to "approved" shop drawings for compliance of length, diameter, thickness, end preparation, hole alignment, size, and location of parts on the assembly.
· Troubleshoots processing issues to ensure material retention.
· Visually examines welds after completion for acceptance per AWS Standards.
· Communicates with production team members, and advises of any non-conformance issues, and initiates non-conformance documentation.
· Enters inspection records into Tekla PowerFab (FabSuite) via tablet or desktop computer.
· Drives the corrective action process to ensure short-term issues are corrected.
· Ensures fabrication processes are performed per AISC/AWS standards, project specs, company policy, and procedures.
· Ensures that all QC procedures are implemented.
· Provides QC data to the shop floor and senior management for continued improvement efforts.
· Institutes all actions necessary for the successful implementation of the QC plan.
Required Skills:
· Strong Ability to read and interpret documents such as structural steel shop drawings, weld symbols, and procedure manuals.
· Ability to use a computer or tablet to log routine reports and correspondence with supervisors who manage other departments.
· Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as feet & inches, fractions, angles, and degrees.
· Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry for problem-solving.
· Ability to communicate well with others outside of the quality department such as fitters, welders, painters, and shift managers.
· Ability to interpret multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
· A background in the fabrication of structural steel or welding of structural steel is a necessity.
Experience & Education:
· High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or five years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Minimum 2+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication with welding experience.
· ASNT VT level 1 or 2 .
· AWS D1.1 CWI
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands to handle measurement tools; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk throughout the shop and occasionally sit at the computer during report writing. The employee is required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to inspect all visual angles of the fabricated assembly. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
This position is primarily performed in the fabrication shop around machinery, welding, grinding, hammering, and spraying. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Expected hours: 40 to 45 per week
Typical Shift Hours:
1st SHIFT- 5:30am to 2:00pm Mon to Fri
2nd SHIFT- 2:00 pm to 10:30pm Mon to Fri
3rd SHIFT- 10:00 pm to 6:30am Sun to Thurs
