What You'll Do
- Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment.
- Plan and provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children.
- Follow Head Start, Alabama Early Learning Guidelines, Pre-K Standards, and approved curriculum requirements.
- Support children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
- Provide responsive care and effective teaching based on each child's individual needs.
- Maintain constant supervision of children and required child-to-staff ratios.
- Use play, hands-on activities, exploration, and group experiences to encourage learning.
- Observe, document, and assess children's development and progress.
- Maintain accurate classroom and child records.
- Communicate regularly with parents and families about their child's development and learning.
- Conduct parent conferences and required home visits.
- Use approved technology and assessment systems to document children's progress and communicate with families.
- Follow health, safety, sanitation, nutrition, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free classroom and outdoor learning environment.
- Identify concerns and make appropriate referrals when needed.
- Participate in family engagement, recruitment, and community activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Center Director or Education Manager.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet applicable Head Start teacher education requirements, which include:
- An Associate or Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field, equivalent coursework, or another qualification pathway permitted under applicable Head Start requirements.
- Experience working with young children is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children, families, and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation.

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Bend, stoop, stand, and walk for extended periods
- Work directly with young children throughout the day
- Assist in classroom and other center activities as needed
Transportation Requirements
If personal transportation is required for job duties, employees must:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Have a valid driver's license
- Provide required automobile liability insurance
- Provide a current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
- Meet the requirements to be insured under the program's non-owned vehicle insurance plan
