Executive Position Job Summary:
The primary functions are to develop, coordinate and execute the Audit Services program, including:
- Perform the annual risk assessment to develop the annual audit plan.
- Perform and supervise performance of independent audits, investigations and special projects.
- Ensure appropriate workpaper documentation supporting the audit work performed.
- Prepare verbal and written communication to management and the Audit Committee on the results of audits performed, the status of audit plans, education and other items as requested.
- Supervisor Auditors, including review of audit documentation and audit reports.
- Provide informal and formal feedback to Auditors, including annual evaluations.
- Monitor completion of the annual audit plan and provide support and direction to help Auditors accomplish their goals.
Executive Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related subject from an accredited four-year college or university
- MBA or related Master’s degree preferred
- Significant healthcare audit experience in internal audit or public accounting
- Minimum of ten years of healthcare audit experience in a leadership role
- Certifications in CIA and CPA is required, CHIAP preferred
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Summary:
Risk Assessment:
- Display/use knowledge of the healthcare industry and how it relates to the organization to identify needs and/or risks in performing the annual risk assessment and audit plan. Collaborate with management and the Audit Committee to determine the audit areas that present the highest risk and will be included on the annual audit plan. Allocate audit resources to the highest risk activities in the annual audit plan. Make informed decisions about what problems or issues to address and which to delay. Maintain flexibility in order to address investigations and customer requests.
- Adjust the scope of each project to appropriately identify risks and address management concerns. Effectively utilize available resources, such as legal, data analysis and coding expertise.
- Ensure annual audit plan is updated and revised for changes in risks, changes in operations and special projects and that changes are approved by the Audit Committee at the Committee meetings.
Audit Services:
- Consult, interact and create partnerships with and between relevant parties. Help decision-makers turn ideas into action. Ensure effective follow-up on agreed upon action plans.
- Create, learn and apply new technologies, analytical skills and management techniques to improve work product.
- Complete audit plans effectively and efficiently – managing ideas, processes and work steps based on issues and tasks needed to accomplish audit objectives. Demonstrate ability to focus audit on appropriate audit issues and the relative risk of each issue, with input from management.
- Demonstrate ability to prepare appropriate audit issues and specific and meaningful action plans to improve operations through cost savings, revenue enhancements and improvements in processes and controls. Demonstrate oversight abilities to gather sufficient and appropriate evidence. Provide guidance and direction to internal and external auditors to facilitate their doing the same.
Management:
- Ensure audit reports prepared by Auditors are clear, concise and objective.
- Ensure audit reports are issued in a timely manner.
- Ensure effective and timely follow up on agreed upon action plans occurs and is documented in the Audit Follow Up Report.
- Ensure the scope of each audit is appropriate based on the interviews, background and other information reviewed by the Auditor, the original reason the audit was requested and the evaluation of the business risk.
- Perform reviews of audit workpapers to ensure audit work is appropriately documented.
