This person provides non-professional direct resident care duties under the supervision of nursing personnel and to assist in maintaining a positive physical, mental, and psychosocial will-being for the residents.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Qualifications:

Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing and meet all applicable federal and state certification requirements or in training to satisfactorily complete the requirements to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.

Completions of elementary education or otherwise show ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions.

Must speak and understand English.
-
Positive attitude toward the elderly.

Background Clearance mandatory (TB, Drug Screening, Physical…)
Education- Certificates, Licenses or Registrations:

Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant
Experience:

Must have had CNA training in Kansas
-
Must be at least 16 years old

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)

Personal Care Function Duties:
-
Assist resident with bathing, dressing, grooming, dental care, bowel and bladder functions, preparation for medical tests and exams, ear and eye care and positioning in and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, etc.

Nursing Care Function Duties:
-
Provide nursing functions as directed by supervisor including perineal care, catheter care, nail care, turn resident in bed, sponge baths, measure and record temperature, pulse and respirations, weigh and measure residents, perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures and observe and report presence of skin breakdowns; review care plans daily; report changes in resident conditions to supervisor; and, records all necessary charting entries and report all accidents and incidents. Be able to use sit to stand lift and mechanical lifts and know when they are indicated and for what residents.

Food Service Functions Duties:

Prepare residents for meals and snacks; identify food arrangement and assist in feeding residents as needed; record food and fluid intake for room trays and snacks; and, perform after-meal resident care.

Residents’ Rights Functions Duties:
-
Maintain resident confidentiality; treat residents with kindness, dignity and respect. Know and comply with Residents’ Rights rules; and, promptly report all resident complaints, accidents and incidents to supervisor.

Support Functions Duties:
-
Assist as directed in proper admission, transfer and discharge of residents; inventory resident possessions and report food articles and mediation found in resident rooms; and, report defective equipment to maintenance.

Safety and Sanitation Functions Duties:
-
Understand and use Universal Precautions and follow established infections control, hazardous communication and other safety rules; ensure cleanliness of assigned residents; rooms; properly maintain and record residents restraints; and, promptly report all violations of safety and sanitation rules to supervisor.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.

Must be able to speak, read and write the English language in an understandable manner to ensure proper documentation is accurately completed.

Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position and calmly communicate with the residents during the stressful times.

Must possess touching, sight, taste and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met, such as the ability to distinguish smells, taste, temps and hear and respond to paging systems.
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel and support agencies.

Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination.

Must be able to relate to, communicate and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.

Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of waist level and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight.

May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Standing, walking, bending and lifting will occur throughout entire shift.
- Must be able to reach, grasp and have fine hand coordination.

Must be able to utilize gait belts, sit to stand, and hoyer lifts to transfer residents.

Contribute to facility efforts to maintain and/or improve quality of care through participation in the following:

This job description is intended to convey the general scope of the major duties and responsibilities inherent in this position. Other tasks not listed here may be assigned by the DON, RN, LPN and ADON. Periodic revision may be necessary to reflect changes in expectations placed on long term care by the KDADs. This job description will be reviewed and/or revised by the DON annually and as needed.
