Position Overview
Adare Capital is seeking experienced independent contractor bookkeepers to support our clients’ day-to-day accounting needs.
The bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, supporting the monthly close, and ensuring financial information is organized and current. This position will work collaboratively with the client’s fractional CFO or controller, who will provide financial oversight and strategic direction.
This opportunity is well suited for a dependable, detail-oriented accounting professional who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, and communicating directly with business owners and financial leaders.
Client assignments will be made based on experience, industry knowledge, availability, and fit. Placement on Adare Capital’s bench does not guarantee a specific number of hours or client assignments.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may vary by client and could include:
- Maintain accurate and complete financial records within the client’s accounting system.
- Record and properly categorize financial transactions.
- Reconcile bank, credit card, loan, and balance-sheet accounts.
- Manage or support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Prepare customer invoices and monitor outstanding receivables.
- Process vendor bills and maintain supporting documentation.
- Assist with weekly cash reporting and transaction-level cash management.
- Maintain the general ledger and supporting schedules.
- Support month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Identify and correct duplicate, missing, or improperly classified transactions.
- Maintain organized financial documentation and accounting records.
- Prepare preliminary financial reports for review by the fractional CFO or controller.
- Assist with historical bookkeeping cleanup and account reconciliations when required.
- Support payroll recording and coordinate with external payroll providers.
- Coordinate with the client’s CPA, tax professional, payroll provider, and other advisors as directed.
- Follow accounting procedures and internal controls established for the client.
- Identify inconsistencies, missing information, or potential issues and communicate them promptly.
- Meet established reporting deadlines and provide clear updates on outstanding items.
Qualifications
- At least five years of professional bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles, general ledger accounting, and financial statements.
- Demonstrated experience completing bank, credit card, loan, and balance-sheet reconciliations.
- Experience supporting monthly close processes.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online is strongly preferred.
- Experience with additional accounting or reporting systems is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage deadlines and work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information professionally.
- Comfortable working with business owners, fractional CFOs, controllers, CPAs, and other advisors.
- Reliable technology, internet access, and an appropriate remote working environment.
Preferred Experience
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Construction or job-cost accounting.
- Manufacturing, inventory, or cost accounting.
- Healthcare or physician-practice accounting.
- Professional or business services.
- Home and commercial services.
- Hospitality or real estate.
- Multi-entity accounting.
- Historical bookkeeping cleanup.
- Cash-basis and accrual-basis accounting.
- QuickBooks Online certifications.
- Accounting system conversions or process improvements.
- Working with multiple clients in an outsourced accounting environment.
What Success Looks Like
A successful bookkeeper will:
- Keep client financial records accurate, organized, and current.
- Complete reconciliations and reporting responsibilities on schedule.
- Raise questions and discrepancies before they become larger issues.
- Provide the fractional CFO or controller with reliable financial information.
- Communicate proactively without requiring continual follow-up.
- Develop positive, professional relationships with clients and other members of the financial team.
- Help create repeatable accounting processes that can support the client as the business grows.
Independent Contractor Relationship
This is an independent contractor opportunity and not an offer of employment. Contractors are responsible for managing their own business operations, taxes, insurance, technology, and working methods, subject to client requirements, confidentiality obligations, agreed-upon deliverables, and applicable deadlines.
The volume, length, and scope of client assignments will vary. Compensation will be established based on the needs of each engagement, the contractor’s experience, and the agreed-upon scope of work.
Pay: $30.00 - $50.00 per hour
