Job Summary
The Paint & Assembly General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, and strategic execution of the paint and assembly operations. This role provides hands-on leadership across all production departments while partnering closely with Estimating, Sales, Customer Service, Shipping & Receiving, Quality, and Executive Leadership to ensure customer expectations are met through safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.

Location: Oshkosh, WI
Hours Expected: 45 hours per week Mon-Friday, with availability for night or weekend phone calls (on occasion). Start time of 7am.
Compensation & Bonus Structure: Salary role with Mid-Management Bonus Tier
Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Provide overall leadership for all manufacturing operations, including Powder Coating, Assembly, Material Flow, Shipping, Receiving, and Production Support functions.
- Direct daily production activities to ensure customer commitments, production schedules, and operational goals are achieved.
- Monitor production performance while balancing quality, productivity, labor utilization, and on-time delivery.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve throughput and efficiency.
- Develop department goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with company objectives.
- Lead production meetings and communicate priorities across all departments.
- Maintain a visible leadership presence on the production floor and promote accountability throughout the organization.
- Manage powder coating inventory, consumables, and related production materials.
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure uninterrupted production while minimizing excess inventory.
- Coordinate purchasing needs with procurement and suppliers.
- Implement inventory control practices that improve accuracy and reduce waste.
Production & Manufacturing Excellence
- Optimize powder coating, assembly, and manufacturing processes to maximize efficiency and quality.
- Develop standardized work practices that improve consistency and repeatability.
- Ensure equipment, staffing, and workflow support production demands.
- Collaborate with Maintenance to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Drive improvements in production scheduling and capacity planning.
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with the Lean Systems Manager to support the implementation and sustainment of Lean Manufacturing initiatives throughout the facility.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging employee engagement, accountability, and problem-solving.
- Ensure standardized work, visual management, and operational best practices are consistently followed on the production floor.
- Collaborate with the Lean Systems Manager to identify operational improvement opportunities, eliminate waste, and improve workflow efficiency.
- Support Kaizen events and continuous improvement activities by providing operational leadership and ensuring successful execution within production.
- Reinforce Lean principles through daily management practices, coaching supervisors, and maintaining process discipline.
- Monitor operational performance and partner with the Lean Systems Manager to develop action plans that improve productivity, quality, safety, and delivery.
Cross Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Estimating to ensure production capabilities align with customer quotations and project requirements.
- Collaborate with Sales and Customer Service regarding production schedules, customer expectations, and delivery commitments.
- Work closely with Shipping & Receiving teams to coordinate material movement between facilities.
- Support new product launches by ensuring operational readiness and manufacturing capability.
- Maintain strong communication across departments to proactively address production challenges.
- Work alongside other team members to obtain UL certification on paint line operations.
Requirements & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Business Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and progressive manufacturing leadership experience will be considered.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least three (3) years managing production teams and supervisors.
- Experience in powder coating, metal fabrication, assembly, or other industrial manufacturing operations required.
- Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and driving operational performance in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with Lean Manufacturing leaders to sustain continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence.
- Experience with production scheduling, inventory management, ERP/MRP systems, and manufacturing performance metrics preferred.
