Full Job Description

David Bruce Winery

David Bruce Winery has earned an international reputation throughout more than four decades for its dedication to producing the greatest Pinot Noir in the world. The winery was bonded in 1964, and in 2024 we celebrated our 60th Anniversary. Our wines are produced from varietals grown in our 45-acre Estate Vineyard located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The winery has been in the forefront to develop methods that have changed the face of winemaking in California and will continue to do so.

David Bruce Winery was one of 12 California wineries to participate in the now famous 1976 “Judgment of Paris,” in which California Cabernets and Chardonnays outscored French Bordeaux and Burgundies in a blind tasting in France. Since then, David Bruce wines have consistently taken top honors in competitive tastings.

Part-Time Tasting Room Associate

This position reports to the Operations Manager and the Hospitality Manager. Their primary responsibilities as Tasting Room Associate is to provide an exceptional experience to guests of the Winery through their wine knowledge, stellar customer service and sales driven attitude. This position is responsible for the sale of wine and actively soliciting new members to the DBW wine club and assists with set-up and breakdown of most winery events. This is a part-time position that requires weekend availability.

Hospitality & Sales:

1. Host appointments, engaging with guests at a high level to create memorable experiences and promote wine sales and new membership signups.

2. Assist in the preparation of hospitality spaces, ensuring all customer facing areas, place settings, and materials are presented in accordance with established standards.

3. Deliver warm and professional hospitality, educating guests on the David Bruce story and wines, while also able to shift the experience based on customer’s specific interests.

4. Participate in all team training focused on wine education, operational improvement, and high-level customer service & engagement.

5. Utilize soft sales techniques to maximize upselling of David Bruce wines and encourage qualified guests to sign up for membership.

6. Follow up with guests post-visit, contacting them via their preferred method of communication to create a lasting relationship.

Membership Services:

1. Phone Reception – Provide support for all incoming calls to the winery.

2. Processing sales orders via phone, email & website.

3. Automated Shipment Assistance as requested by Membership Services Manager (4x/year). 4. Assist with order tracking to minimize returns and reships (proactive customer communication).

5. Assist with customer Returns Processing & Reshipping (shipping company and customer communication).

6. Importing tracking numbers into WineDirect and Commerce 7 (POS platforms), as needed.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

1. CRM daily utilization - track key information about guests and members to provide a deeper customer relationship (Hubspot).

2. TR Administrative Support – Help coordinate all bookings directly with customers via incoming phone calls, and online POS (Commerce7), 3rd parties (tour companies & hotels), as well as via winery email accounts.

3. Shipping/Packaging - coordinate wine packing/shipping for all DTC shipments.

4. Member & non-member Events On-Site – Assisting with on-site events (Private & Corporate Events).

5. Member & non-member Events Off-Site – Assisting with off-site events (pouring at Wine Walks, etc.).

6. Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager and Hosptality Manager.

7. Maintain cleanliness in the tasting room, bathroom facilities and wash/polish glassware used in the tasting room.

Availability:

Weekends and select weekdays: Friday through Sunday (20-24 hours/week).

Professional Requirements:

Viable candidates for this role must possess skills in the areas of sales, hospitality, and administration. While not exhaustive, the following should be included in a viable candidate’s background:

● High School Diploma, or equivalent.

● Excellent communication and sales skills are essential.

● 1-3 years experience in a DTC focused winery or a similar environment such as: retail, restaurant, hospitality or customer service.

● Wine knowledge is a plus BUT willingness to learn is essential.

● Strong communications skills; verbally and in writing.

● Cash handling experience and basic math skills.

● Flexibility and ability to manage constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.

● Ability to follow company policies and procedures regarding federal and state shipping compliance

● Complete the California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Training Program and passing the exam required

● Understanding of Commerce7 or WineDirect or Ship Compliant preferred ● Computer literate, including proficiency in all main MS Office applications.

● Hubspot experience would be a plus..

● Reliable transportation required

● Physical requirements: ability to lift 50 lbs.
