Tax Manager CPA

Location: Frisco, Texas
Job type: Full time
Compensation: $120,000 to $160,000

Many Tax Manager roles come with an unspoken condition.

You take on more clients, more deadlines, and more responsibility. Then, sooner or later, you are expected to start selling.

This opportunity is structured differently.

An established independent CPA firm in Frisco is hiring a Tax Manager to take ownership of an existing client portfolio worth around $1 million.

The Partners handle business development.

Your time stays focused on the work you are good at: leading client relationships, reviewing quality work, managing delivery, developing the team, and helping clients make informed decisions.

For someone who wants to operate as a senior tax professional without being pushed into sales, that is a meaningful difference.

Take real ownership from the start

You will step into an established portfolio and become the main point of contact for those clients from day one.

This is not a preparation heavy position dressed up as a management role. Your focus will be on review, sign off, planning, workflow, and client leadership.

You will have the authority to keep work moving, maintain standards, and make sure clients receive the level of service they expect.

The Partners are hands on and available when needed, but they are not looking to add unnecessary layers to every decision. They want someone they can trust to take responsibility and lead.

What makes this role different

You will inherit an established client portfolio worth around $1 million.

You will focus on review, planning, sign off, and client leadership.

There are no business development expectations.

You will work directly with Partners who are decisive, accessible, and involved when it matters.

You will join a firm of around 20 people, where your contribution will be visible and your decisions will have an impact.

The client base is established, the work is consistent, and the team is organised around reliable delivery rather than unnecessary chaos.

What you will be responsible for

You will review and sign federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and businesses.

You will lead client relationships and act as the main point of contact for your portfolio.

You will manage workflow, deadlines, and review quality across the team.

You will coach and support Seniors and Preparers.

You will work with the Partners on more complex technical and tax planning matters.

You will identify practical ways to improve service, efficiency, and communication.

You will help the team stay organised during busy periods without creating a culture of constant urgency.

What the firm is looking for

You will need to be a CPA with strong public accounting tax experience.

You may already be working as a Tax Manager, or you may be an experienced Tax Senior who is ready to take on full portfolio ownership.

You should be confident reviewing tax work, managing deadlines, and leading client relationships.

You will be comfortable taking responsibility for a substantial portfolio and making sound decisions without needing constant oversight.

Most importantly, you will be a steady, reliable leader who values quality, ownership, and clear communication.
