Job Description
The Program Assistant supports the daily operations of the MentorKids Afterschool and Summer Programs by assisting with Bible lessons, leadership development, academic support, classroom management, and parent communication for students in kindergarten through 7th grade.
We are seeking a dependable, energetic, and Christ-centered individual who enjoys working with children and is passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of youth and families. The Program Assistant works alongside the Program Coordinator and Lead Teachers to create a safe, engaging, and encouraging environment where students can grow academically, socially, and spiritually.
This is a part-time position requiring up to 18 hours per week during the school year and up to 28 hours per week during the summer.
Program Schedule
After-School Program (July–May)
- Monday–Thursday | 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Summer Program (June)
- Monday–Thursday | 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Responsibilities
- Provide classroom coverage by substituting for teachers when they are absent or need to step out of the classroom.
- Assist with parent communication and translation as needed.
- Support daily Bible lessons, leadership activities, homework help, reading, recreation, and enrichment activities.
- Build positive relationships with students while modeling Christian values.
- Support positive classroom behavior using MentorKids expectations and TBRI®-informed practices.
- Prepare classroom materials and help maintain a clean, organized learning environment.
- Supervise students during transitions, snack time, outdoor play, and other program activities.
- Assist with student attendance, daily setup, and cleanup.
- Support volunteers and help create a welcoming environment for students and families.
- Communicate student needs and concerns to the Lead Teacher and Program Coordinator.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other program-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate a vibrant and growing Christian faith.
- Enjoy working with children and families.
- Be dependable, organized, and a positive team player.
- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be able to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting (preferred).
- First Aid certification (preferred).
- CPR certification (preferred).
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
Pay: $17.00 per hour
