JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Responsible for meeting with customers to determine electric needs and requirements. Design jobs to install, replace, or remove distribution facilities to support customer requests, reliability projects, or infrastructure improvement.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Primary responsibility will be to manage multiple distribution projects for new residential and commercial businesses. Includes meeting with customers to determine their service needs, design of overhead and underground line extensions, estimating costs, preparing construction drawings and coordinate construction commits.
- Coordinate and lead pre-design and pre-construction meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform engineering calculations to aid in planning and corrective measure projects (i.e., load studies, revenue justification, fault current, voltage drop, etc.).
- Provide leadership and technical support to local operations and contract compliance with regards to distribution design standards and practices to provide seamless service to customers and external constituents.
- Aid local Right of Way agent with acquiring permits and ROW documents.
- Assist with storm restoration efforts as needed both local and out of town leading and/or participating in damage assessment activities.
Minimum Requirements by Level
Designer I
Requires one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (any discipline), or
- 2-year technical/associate degree, or
- 1 year of electric utility distribution or transmission design experience, or
- 2+ years of electric utility field operations experience (transmission, substation, distribution, or metering), or
- Department Senior Manager (or above) approval in lieu of the above
Designer II
Requires:
- 2 years of electric utility distribution or transmission design experience, and one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (any discipline), or
- 2-year technical/associate degree, or
- 2 additional years of electric utility design experience, or
- 2+ years of electric utility field operations experience (transmission, substation, distribution, or metering), or
- Department Senior Manager (or above) approval in lieu of the above
Designer III
Requires:
- 4 years of electric utility distribution or transmission design experience,and one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (any discipline), or
- 2-year technical/associate degree, or
- 2 additional years of electric utility design experience, or
- 2+ years of electric utility field operations experience (transmission, substation, distribution, or metering), or
- Department Senior Manager (or above) approval in lieu of the above
Senior Designer
Requires:
- 6 years of electric utility distribution or transmission design experience, and one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree (any discipline), or
- 2-year technical/associate degree, or
- 2 additional years of electric utility design experience, or
- 2+ years of electric utility field operations experience (transmission, substation, distribution, or metering), or
- Department Senior Manager (or above) approval in lieu of the above
Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Basic knowledge of electrical theory
- Ability to interpret construction drawings
- Proficiency with computers and standard software
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Self-motivated and dependable team player
- Solid math and analytical skills
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Commitment to safety and ability to recognize and mitigate workplace hazards
- Ability to maintain company equipment and safeguard assets
- Strong customer service mindset with the ability to interact professionally with the public
