ABOUT THE ROLE
The Managing Director of Student Advising and Family Alliance provides strategic leadership for the organization's Student Advising and Family Alliance portfolio, translating the Chief Impact Officer's vision into integrated departmental strategy, operational priorities, and measurable outcomes. Reporting to the Chief Impact Officer, the Managing Director establishes the long-term direction for student advising, postsecondary planning, family readiness, family engagement, and coordinated student and family support, develops organizational standards, leads Directors responsible for execution, allocates resources, evaluates portfolio performance, and cultivates strategic partnerships that advance student success, family readiness, economic mobility, and T3's North Star.
Key Functions and Essential Duties
Leads Student Advising and Family Alliance Strategy
- Develop and execute the departmental strategy for Student Advising and Family Alliance.
- Align departmental priorities, resources, and investments with organizational goals.
- Monitor K-12 advising, postsecondary access, family engagement, and student support trends to drive continuous innovation.
- Establish annual priorities, performance goals, and multi-year strategic roadmaps.
- Translate enterprise priorities established by the Chief Impact Officer into coordinated departmental strategies.
Leads Student Advising and Postsecondary Planning
- Provide strategic oversight for student advising and postsecondary planning services across partnering schools and districts.
- Establish standards that improve advising quality, postsecondary planning, and student outcomes.
- Build and strengthen school and district partnerships that advance student success.
- Lead continuous improvement through performance monitoring and accountability.
- Serve as the executive relationship manager for key school and district partnerships related to advising while supporting enterprise partnerships led by the Chief Impact Officer.
- Collaborate with the Chief Impact Officer on executive-level district partnerships, partnership expansion, and strategic growth opportunities.
Leads Family Alliance Strategy and Programming
- Provide strategic leadership for the organization's Family Alliance portfolio, including family learning, navigation, engagement, and readiness initiatives.
- Establish standards and priorities that strengthen family knowledge, confidence, and ability to support students throughout the educational continuum.
- Cultivate strategic partnerships with school districts, community organizations, coalitions, and other partners that expand family participation and support.
- Ensure Family Alliance programming is coordinated with Student Advising and other T3 services to create an integrated student and family experience.
- Identify strategic opportunities that strengthen family engagement and family readiness in support of student success.
Evaluates Program Impact to Inform Direction
- Evaluate portfolio performance across Student Advising and Family Alliance.
- Analyze organizational trends to determine strategic priorities.
- Establish departmental KPIs.
- Review operational performance reports submitted by Directors.
- Determine strategic course corrections based on performance data.
- Recommend organizational investments and resource shifts.
- Evaluate portfolio performance across Student Advising and Family Alliance to ensure alignment with organizational outcomes and long-term strategic priorities.
Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop the Director of Student Advising and Director of Family Alliance.
- Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Align team priorities with organizational strategy.
Operational Leadership & Performance
- Own the departmental performance and execution of the strategy.
- Establish and monitor departmental KPIs, using performance trends and student and family outcome data to drive strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Design and oversee staffing strategies and organizational capacity to ensure sustainable, high quality student advising and family support services.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, grant requirements, and partner expectations.
- Own departmental budget development, forecasting, and financial stewardship, ensuring responsible management of resources.
- Provide strategic operational reporting, recommendations, and performance insights to the Chief Impact Officer and Executive Leadership Team.
- Foster a culture of operational excellence, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement across Student Advising and Family Alliance.
- Ensure departmental priorities remain aligned with enterprise strategic initiatives established by the Chief Impact Officer.
Strategic Leadership
- Execute the multi-year strategic roadmap for Student Advising and Family Alliance.
- Translate organizational priorities into measurable initiatives.
- Provide strategic recommendations and subject matter expertise to the Chief Impact Officer on student advising, postsecondary planning, family engagement, and family readiness.
- Serve as the executive advisor to the Chief Impact Officer on coordinated student and family support strategy.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner across departments to advance enterprise priorities.
- Strengthen collaboration among Student Advising, Family Alliance, internal teams, and external partners.
- Ensure departmental strategies contribute to T3's North Star and organizational impact.
- Partner with executive leadership to support implementation of enterprise initiatives, organizational change efforts, and strategic priorities established by the Chief Impact Officer.
- Exercise decision-making authority within the Student Advising and Family Alliance portfolio while escalating enterprise-level decisions to the Chief Impact Officer and collaborating across organizational functions.
Who We're Looking For
Required:
- 8+ years with demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams, multiple functions, for complex education and student success initiatives.
- Ability to build collaborative partnerships across internal departments and external stakeholders, including school and district leaders and community partners.
- Proven ability to align departmental strategy, resources, operations, and performance measures with organizational priorities.
- Experience leading organizational change while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in education, counseling, public administration, business administration, organizational leadership, or a related field.
- Experience overseeing both student advising and family engagement or family support initiatives.
- Experience working with K-12 districts, higher education institutions, community organizations, and nonprofit partners.
- Experience managing public or private grant-funded programs and ensuring compliance with funder requirements.
- Experience presenting organizational strategy and performance outcomes to executive leadership, governing boards, or external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of student advising, postsecondary access, family engagement, and student success strategies.
- Experience leading large-scale organizational growth, systems transformation, or strategic implementation initiatives
