Associate Attorney — Social Security Disability

Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas
Full-Time | $80,000–$90,000 per year + benefits and performance bonus

We are a growing Social Security Disability law firm in the Dallas–Fort Worth area seeking an Associate Attorney to join our practice and develop into a highly skilled Social Security disability hearing attorney.

Prior Social Security disability experience is not required.

We are more interested in finding an intelligent, hardworking attorney with excellent judgment, strong communication skills, and a genuine desire to become an effective advocate. The attorney selected for this position will receive substantial hands-on training directly from an experienced Social Security disability attorney and will gradually assume responsibility for representing clients at administrative hearings.

This is an excellent opportunity for a newer attorney who wants real courtroom-style advocacy experience, significant client responsibility, and the opportunity to develop expertise in a specialized area of federal law.

What You Will Do

Prepare Social Security disability cases for hearings before Administrative Law Judges
Review medical records and identify the important medical and vocational issues in each case
Meet with and prepare clients for hearings
Conduct Social Security disability hearings
Question clients and, when appropriate, vocational and medical experts
Analyze difficult factual and legal issues
Work closely with our experienced support staff in preparing cases
Communicate with clients regarding their cases
Draft written arguments and other legal submissions when appropriate
Gradually develop responsibility for an independent hearing docket

We do not expect the successful candidate to walk in on the first day knowing Social Security disability law. Training will be substantial and responsibility will increase as the attorney demonstrates competence.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

Licensed to practice law in any state, or eligible to become licensed promptly
Intelligent, curious, and willing to learn
Comfortable speaking with clients from all backgrounds
A strong verbal communicator
Able to think on his or her feet
Organized and capable of managing a substantial caseload
Compassionate with clients while maintaining professional boundaries
Comfortable making decisions and exercising independent judgment
Interested in advocacy and administrative hearings
Dependable, professional, and accountable for the quality of his or her work

Social Security disability experience is a plus, but it is not required.

We would rather hire an excellent lawyer who wants to learn this practice than require years of prior Social Security experience.

Compensation and Growth

Starting base salary: $80,000–$90,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

The position also includes benefits and the opportunity for performance-based compensation.

Our intention is to develop this attorney into someone capable of independently managing a substantial Social Security disability hearing docket. As responsibility, proficiency, and production increase, there will be a meaningful opportunity for compensation growth.

This is not intended to be a position where an associate spends years performing only research or support work. The attorney we hire will be trained to practice law, represent clients, conduct hearings, and take increasing ownership of cases.

About the Practice

We are an established and rapidly growing claimant-side Social Security disability practice serving clients throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area and beyond.

The firm has an experienced support team that handles much of the administrative processing associated with our cases, allowing the attorney to concentrate primarily on case evaluation, hearing preparation, client counseling, legal analysis, and advocacy.

We maintain an active hearing practice, so the attorney selected for this position will have the opportunity to develop substantial hearing experience.

For the right attorney, this position offers the opportunity to grow with the firm and assume substantially greater responsibility over time.
