About the Texas Organizing Project (TOP): Founded in 2009, TOP has become a leading statewide organizing group in Texas, advancing racial and economic justice through community and electoral organizing. Our programs are anchored in the three largest metro regions of the state: Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. We have a base of over 277,000 members and supporters who are reflective of Texas’s growing population - people of color, low-moderate income families. Through on-the-ground organizing, grassroots leader trainings, direct action, policy advocacy, and electoral engagement, we have made gains in policy solutions and public investments in criminal justice, neighborhood infrastructure, family-sustaining jobs, affordable housing, community schools, health access, and immigrant rights. TOP and its partner PACs have also run the largest independent grassroots electoral field operation in the state, running programs in four of the largest counties.
The Temporary GOTV Team Lead is a full-time, temporary position running August 17, 2026, through November 7, 2026. Team Leads will play a key role in the GOTV campaign by supervising and supporting a team of canvassers during the election cycle. They are responsible for coaching and motivating canvassers, ensuring daily voter-contact goals are met, maintaining accurate data, and supporting high-quality field operations. This is a fast-paced opportunity for individuals who are passionate about community organizing, civic engagement, and building voter participation across Texas.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Check stats & review with the Canvass Manager
- Update attendance log
- Owner of the canvas communications (chats are generally on GroupMe, WhatsApp, Discord, etc)
- Rap Practice with canvassers
- Quality Control Check
- Train a team of canvassers on various skills, including but not limited to knocking on doors, learning a script, reading a map, and entering data correctly.
- Holdbacks- team members who need extra training should stay behind after launch. This is a good opportunity for 1-1 rap practice, map routing assistance, and troubleshooting
- Hit turf and do the 3-touch rule- visit your canvassers in the order of red, yellow, and green
- Strong communication with your team members.
- Facilitate discussion with the team before and after each day's inventory
Qualifications:
- Canvassed for political elections or community organizing background
- Trained or led a team of people
- Managed a canvass before (preferred but not required)
- Passion for social, racial, and economic justice and progressive political change is a must
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Computer proficiency in Google Sheets
- Ability to utilize multiple programs at once
- Must have a strong ability to multitask and stay organized
- Must be a quick learner and able to work independently
- Detail oriented
- Must be flexible and willing to work sometimes long, irregular hours
