Job Summary
· Provide leadership, guidance and hands-on assistance in managing the Quality Assurance Team at Dallas.
· Assistance in maintaining and managing the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with customer and/or AS9100/ISO 9000 requirements at the Dallas, Texas Site.
· Provide expertise and support to the quality team in applying QMS requirements, along with verifying products at the various stages of production from machining, fabricating, and assembling of components.
· Perform or oversee inspection and disposition of components at incoming, in-process, and final inspection stages, as required.
· Establish and manage inspection priorities in alignment with quality management system directives and production schedules.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Leadership
- Provide leadership and technical support to the QA department and team.
- Establish and manage priority sequencing for the quality team to meet production deadlines and targets.
- Ensure deadlines and priorities established by Dallas site and head office are met
- Ensure that records inspection outcomes are completed and accurate, the desired data is being captured, and reports for quality performance and non-conformities are documented appropriately.
- Ensure that the desired reports, data, and information is reported to head office as required.
Documentation
· Ensure documentation needed to comply with the QMS are maintained and completed for the Dallas site.
· Ensure that the desired quality documentation and data, on First Article Inspection Report (FAI), PPAP, Quality Performance Reports, Inspection Logs and Records, etc. is maintained and available for the Dallas site.
· Ensure inspection outcomes are accurately recorded, required data is captured, and quality performance and non‑conformance (KPI) reports are completed.
· Ensure required quality reports, data, and information are compiled and reported to head office in accordance with established requirements.
Inspect
· Conduct regular quality assessments throughout the manufacturing process, including inspection of incoming materials and components through finished goods.
· Perform dimensional and visual inspections of precision sheet metal, machined components, and assemblies in accordance with customer drawings and specifications.
· Ensure inspection outcomes are accurately documented, required data is captured, and quality performance and non‑conformance KPI reports are completed.
· Compile and report required quality data, reports, and documentation to head office in accordance with established requirements.
NCR
· Ensuring that defective material is identified, actioned, and the Non-Conforming Material Reports (NCR) issued, monitored and closed in a timely manner for the Dallas site.
· Act as the Material Review Board (MRB) Chair for the Dallas site, leading the review, disposition, and approval of non‑conformance NCR decisions in accordance with established procedures.
· Resolve quality-related issues promptly and work with the engineering and production on NCR investigations and process or product improvements.
Corrective Action
· Assist or lead production and management in developing effective solutions to problems identified through quality activities and data analysis.
· Assist or lead investigations into manufacturing and/or customer quality issues and complaints, as directed by management, and develop appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
· Complete and submit site Corrective Action (CAPA) responses to head office and/or customers in accordance with established requirements and timelines.
Process Improvement
· Support continuous improvement initiatives through the analysis of data obtained from quality operations, inspections, and quality records.
· Assist in recommending, developing, and implementing improvements or modifications to existing quality or production standards and processes to achieve optimal quality performance and operational efficiency.
Calibration
· Ensure all inspection, measuring, and test equipment requiring calibration are included in the calibration program, maintained within prescribed calibration intervals, and clearly identified with current calibration status.
Training
· Provide training to individuals, on quality principles, control plans, product inspection, QMS etc.
Other
· Enforce company standards regarding quality, safety and security regulations, environmental compliance, and good housekeeping practices.
· Perform other duties within their skill sets as assigned by the Senior and/or Quality Management directive.
Key Qualifications
- Post-secondary education and/or University or College Degree in Mechanical / Industrial / Quality engineering or similar disciplines (preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in an ISO9001 or AS9100-certified manufacturing environment, along with 3 years of supervision experience.
- A thorough knowledge of product development in metal fabrication or machining processes is an asset.
- Good understanding of quality management systems requirements and auditing practices.
Skills / Training
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and specifications to understand product requirements. Compare the finished product against the specifications and engineering drawings or blueprints.
- Great mechanical aptitude and ability to use inspection and measurement tools such as micrometres, vernier calipers, and height gauges.
- Good leadership skills with a proven track record of mentoring and developing team members.
- Good working knowledge of Geometric Dimention &Tolerance (GD&T).
- Familiar with Statistical Process Control (SPC) principles.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to work with computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Familiar working with ERP systems, prefer VISUAL INFO.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate in English to suppliers, and customers.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision as well as able to work in a team environment.
- Sound problem-solving skills and the ability to provide solid solutions.
- ASQ certifications are an asset
- Completion of a college program in Quality Assurance is preferred
- Solid knowledge of metal manufacturing.
- Use of SolidWorks is an asset.
· Good understanding of Quality Management System (QMS) principles and requirements.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- A fast-paced manufacturing shop floor environment involves frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and balancing.
- Processes are repetitive and involve close attention to detail.
- Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination.
- Requires complying with health and safety policies, safe work practices, and legislation (OHSA).
- Ensure the work area is kept clean and organized.
