Job Overview - Greenhouse Manager
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Greenhouse Manager to lead our horticultural operations within a thriving greenhouse environment. This role offers an exciting opportunity to oversee the cultivation and management of diverse plant varieties, ensuring optimal growth conditions and crop quality. As a Greenhouse Manager, you will oversee plant cultivation from propagation through harvest, maintain greenhouse equipment and environmental controls, manage inventory, and support organic farming practices. Your expertise will help create a vibrant, productive space that supports sustainable agriculture and innovative plant cultivation.
Monday - Friday with alternating weekends
Hours: 7:00am-4:00pm OR 8:00am-5:00pm (To be discussed and finalized)
Responsibilities
- Monitor greenhouse conditions daily, including plant health, soil moisture, soil pH, pest activity, fruit quality, and environmental stress; accurately document findings in digital records.
- Water plants according to established schedules and adjust irrigation based on plant and environmental needs.
- Harvest, clean, dry, and prepare crops for storage or processing.
- Propagate, transplant, and establish new plants while managing seasonal crop rotations.
- Identify and treat plant pests and diseases using approved regenerative practices, including biological controls, fertilizers, fungicides, pesticides, and physical traps when appropriate.
- Collect, catalog, and maintain seed inventory.
- Maintain raised garden beds through planting, harvesting, weeding, and pest management.
- Operate and monitor greenhouse environmental control systems, lighting, irrigation, and related equipment.
- Maintain greenhouse facilities, headhouse, workspaces, and equipment to ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment.
- Track inventory and coordinate ordering of supplies as needed.
- Coordinate with greenhouse system vendors and facility maintenance partners regarding equipment performance, repairs, and upgrades.
- Supervise and coordinate work schedules for Greenhouse Assistants, including coverage for time-off requests.
- Research best practices in plant cultivation, propagation, harvesting, disease management, and sustainable farming methods.
- Assist with planning and implementing future planting schedules and greenhouse projects.
- Prepare herbs and harvested vegetation for livestock as needed.
- Promote and maintain regenerative, chemical-conscious growing practices whenever possible.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience managing greenhouse operations, horticulture, agriculture, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of greenhouse environmental control systems (TOSIBOX experience preferred).
- Strong understanding of plant propagation, cultivation, pest identification, irrigation, and harvesting practices.
- Herbalism or medicinal plant experience is preferred.
- Ability to research and implement best practices in plant science and sustainable agriculture.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible and adaptable when priorities shift throughout the day
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly lift and carry 40 pounds or more.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including frequent stooping, bending, twisting, reaching, squatting, walking, and standing throughout the workday.
- Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including hot, cold, wet, and humid weather.
- Ability to safely perform manual labor in greenhouse and outdoor farm environments.
