Summary
This position reports to our Artesia, New Mexico office and works throughout the surrounding areas. The Lease Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of assigned oil and gas wells by monitoring production, operating and maintaining field equipment, conducting well testing, and performing routine inspections. The Lease Operator plays a key role in maximizing production while ensuring compliance with company policies, environmental regulations, and safe work practices.
Essential Job Functions
- Ensure all field equipment is clean, properly maintained, and in safe working condition.
- Gauge production on assigned wells and accurately report production information.
- Read, record, and maintain meter readings and other operational data.
- Operate and monitor field equipment, including compressors, valves, vessels, pumps, pumping units, guards, and wellheads.
- Inspect surface equipment daily for leaks, defects, damage, and general condition.
- Troubleshoot and correct unusual operating conditions when appropriate.
- Proactively monitor well and equipment performance and take appropriate action to maximize production.
- Travel daily to multiple well locations to monitor operations and perform routine inspections.
- Perform general housekeeping and field maintenance to maintain safe and efficient operations.
- Maintain accurate production and operational records.
- Communicate equipment issues, production concerns, and safety hazards to supervisors promptly.
- Follow all company safety policies and wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minium Qualifications
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of Lease Operator or oilfield production experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with company guidelines.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
- Experience operating and maintaining oilfield production equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and identify operational issues.
- Ability to follow established work procedures while maintaining a high level of quality, productivity, and safety.
- Ability to work independently, plan work, establish priorities, and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

Work Setting
- This position is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions and requires daily travel between multiple oil and gas lease locations throughout southeastern New Mexico. The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical equipment, production facilities, uneven terrain, dust, noise, temperature extremes, and other conditions common to oilfield operations.
- Employees must be able to safely walk and work around oilfield equipment, production facilities, and vehicles. The position requires frequent bending, climbing, crawling, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds while working in varying weather conditions. Strict adherence to company safety policies and the proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) are essential.
- Typical schedule is Monday through Friday; additional hours, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations may be required based on operational needs.
