Full Job Description

House Manager & Family Assistant (with Meal Prep Support)

Location: Aldie, VA 20105 (relocating to Sterling, VA 20166 this fall, about 10 minutes away) Employment Type: Part-time, 10-15 hours per week (10 hours guaranteed) Schedule: 2-3 weekday mornings, approximately 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Some flexibility on which days. Compensation: $28-30 per hour, based on experience Start Date: ASAP

Requirements

Minimum 3 years of experience as a house manager, family assistant, personal assistant, or in a comparable private household role
Fluent English
Reliable transportation
Maintain a smoke-free environment
Vaccinations (general)
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Comfortable working in a home with a large, friendly senior dog
Tech-comfortable; familiarity with Notion and Google Calendar is a plus
This role requires a background check

About Our Family

We are an ambitious and intentional family of three in Aldie. Husband is an entrepreneur and software engineer with several workstreams running at any given time. Wife is on a work sabbatical, taking the space to figure out what is next in her career. Our four-year-old son is a hilarious, playful little guy who is in school during the day. Our dog, an older Lab mix, is wonderful with people and is navigating some health issues right now, so he is home and comfortable and simply part of the furniture.

We are not looking for someone to run our lives. We are looking to create space in them. Right now, too much of our attention goes to the daily task list and household operations, and not enough goes to our connection with each other and the bigger goals we have as a family. The right person in this role gives us that back.

Our home is a three-bedroom, three-bath condo, and we will be moving to a larger townhouse about ten minutes away this fall. We have a cleaning service that does a full deep clean every one to two months. What we need is everything in between: the weekly reset, the laundry that actually gets put away, meals that are ready when we are hungry, and the steady sense that the house is handled.

Who You Are

You are the kind of person who walks into a room and sees what needs to happen without being told. You take quiet pride in a home that simply works, and you find real satisfaction in the fact that the fridge is stocked, the laundry is in the drawers, and dinner is not a 5:30 PM emergency.

You are proactive and self-directed. Once you know our rhythms, you do not need a checklist handed to you each morning. You communicate openly, you flag things early, and you are comfortable saying when something is not working.

You are warm and easy to have in the house. Regina is often home while you are working, so this is a role where you will be sharing space, not operating alone in an empty house. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with that and who makes the household feel lighter, not busier.

Direct childcare is not part of this role. Our son is in school during your hours. That said, you are the kind of person who is kind and engaging with kids on the occasions your paths cross.

We are looking for someone who wants a long-term relationship with a family, not a placeholder job. If this works, we want it to work for years, and we intend to make it a genuinely good experience on your end too.

Key Responsibilities

Household Management & Organization

Daily resets: dishes, clearing and wiping surfaces, vacuuming high-traffic areas
Refresh and de-clutter landing zones (entryway, kitchen island, dining table)
Create and maintain simple household organization systems
Ensure interior trash and recycling are emptied; break down boxes
Prep the home ahead of deep-clean visits
Restock everyday supplies (paper towels, toilet paper, tissues) and flag what is running low
Small maintenance items (light bulbs, batteries, smoke detector checks)

Laundry & Linen Care

Wash, dry, fold, and put away laundry for the household
Regular linen and towel rotation
Keep the laundry area tidy and well stocked

Meal Planning & Prep

Prep 2-3 dinners per week to a ready-to-cook state (produce washed and chopped, proteins marinated, components portioned)
Batch-prep healthy snacks, with a focus on cut fruit and vegetables our son will actually eat
We love Asian food and are working to eat healthier overall; someone who enjoys cooking in that direction is a real plus
Contribute to the weekly Instacart list alongside Regina
Put away grocery deliveries in an organized way
Kitchen cleanup and ongoing kitchen tidiness

Inventory & Errands

Manage running household supply lists
Handle mail and package intake
Occasional errands: donation drop-offs, returns

Organization & Special Projects

Ongoing organizational projects: closets, pantry, toys, gear, seasonal items
Decluttering, packing, and unpacking support around our upcoming move
Seasonal swaps (clothing, decor, bedding)
Prepare and coordinate donation drop-offs
Occasional guest or holiday prep

Light Family & Pet Support

Occasional backup presence so Regina can step out or take a call
Our dog stays home during the day. No walking or dog care is required, but you should be comfortable having a large, friendly senior dog around. He is great with people.

Administrative Support

General awareness of the family calendar (Google Calendar)
Comfort working from shared systems and checklists (we use Notion)
Receipt tracking for any household purchases made on our behalf

Growth

We are intentionally starting this role light at 10 hours per week so we can build a rhythm together. If it is a strong fit on both sides, we would like to grow the role after the first 90 days to 15 hours. We will talk about that openly rather than letting it creep.
