UNC Health Pardee is hiring for Women and Children's!

SUMMARY

The Women and Children's Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, evidence‑based care to patients across the continuum of women’s and children’s services, including labor and delivery, postpartum, neonatal, pediatric, and medical‑surgical care, ensuring safe, coordinated, and adaptable care to meet evolving patient needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

Perform comprehensive patient assessments across the lifespan, including maternal, neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations
Apply evidence‑based practices to support safe care during labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, neonatal stabilization, and general medical‑surgical care
Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition across multiple populations, including obstetric, neonatal, and pediatric patients
Prioritize and manage care for multiple patients with varying acuity levels in a dynamic, multi‑specialty environment
Support safe labor and delivery processes, including fetal monitoring, patient support, and collaboration with the obstetric care team
Provide postpartum care and education to promote recovery, maternal‑infant bonding, and newborn care
Deliver age‑appropriate care and interventions for pediatric patients, including medication administration and family education
Assist with neonatal care, including stabilization and support of infants requiring additional monitoring or intervention
Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams, including providers, respiratory therapy, and specialty consultants to ensure continuity of care
Educate patients and families across the continuum of care, including childbirth, newborn care, pediatric conditions, and discharge planning
Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR)
Promote patient safety through adherence to infection prevention, maternal and neonatal safety protocols, and age‑specific care standards
Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and team members in both routine and high‑stress situations
Demonstrate strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and adaptability when caring for diverse patient populations
Adapt quickly to changing patient needs, unit priorities, and cross‑functional assignments within the Women and Children’s Center
Maintain required certifications and complete ongoing education and competency validation relevant to the unit
Serve as a resource, preceptor, or charge nurse when assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required, Associate’s Degree in Nursing

Experience

One (1) year of experience working as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting

Certifications , Licenses, Registrations

Required upon hire:

Active Registered Nurse license in the state of North Carolina or a Compact License
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Required after hire:

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
S.T.A.B.L.E. Certification
Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring Course

Preferred:

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification
Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring Course
Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) Certification
