Eaton’s Electrical Sector - ARS division is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer based onsite at our Arden, NC manufacturing facility, supporting our Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) products. Relocation assistance is available to candidates who currently reside in the US.
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for our ATS products is responsible for the development and delivery of best-in-class Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) products and features, ensuring solutions align with market needs and customer requirements. This role leads product development activities throughout the entire product lifecycle, including research, design, validation, deployment, and ongoing maintenance. As a technical subject matter expert, the ATS Senior Mechanical Design Engineer provides deep expertise in Automatic Transfer Switch technology while applying sound engineering principles and practical problem-solving skills to address complex challenges. The position also leverages advanced engineering tools, including product lifecycle management (PLM) systems, computer-aided design (CAD) software, and drafting and modeling applications, to support innovative product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $86000 - $126000 a year. Please note the salary information shown is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
- Develop, design, validate, and manage the implementation of new best-in-class Automatic transfer switches.
- Translate internal and external customer requirements into measurable performance criteria.
- Develop technical communications: datasheets, interface control documents, test plans, etc.
- Design, model, and test product prototypes.
- Maintain and improve existing products through design and competitive analysis.
- Work with other Eaton Electrical businesses as well as outside suppliers to develop new features and design opportunities for products within the product line scope and charter.
- Integrate best practices from each functional team to deliver a high quality, best-in-class design.
- Ensure compliance to all applicable national and local electrical codes and standards as they relate to the products we produce (UL, NEC, NEMA, OSPHD).
- Participate in codes and standards organizations as necessary (UL, NEC, CSA, NEMA, CANENA).
- Authors and/or reviews test plans, procedures, and reports and setups for development, acceptance, and qualification testing.
- Drives failure analysis investigations for Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) projects.
- Communicates effectively with internal and external technical and program leadership teams, and to middle management audiences (external and internal).
- Supports marketing and sales teams with technical support and customer visit.
- Guide less experienced members of the engineering team on project tasks.
Collaborate with customer and vendor technical teams effectively and efficiently.

Basic (required) Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
- Two (2) years of experience in mechanical design.
- Proficiency in engineering design software/tools.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
- Four (4) years of design experience with electromechanical products/equipment.
- Two (2) years of previous design experience with products certified to UL1008 or UL891.
- Certified Six Sigma Green/Black belt
- Previous experience using engineering software/tools such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor & Enovia.
