Hi-Wire Brewing is a rapidly growing brewery based in Asheville, NC, specializing in approachable and balanced lagers and ales. Since opening our first location in 2013, our hard-working, creative, and passionate team has been recognized with several accolades, including: 3 Gold medals from the Great American Beer Festival, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze Medal from the World Beer Cup, and several awards from Paste Magazine and the NC Brewers Cup. Position Description
At Hi-Wire Brewing, our Brewer/Cellar Person’s main responsibility is to ensure quality and consistency with our brewing process, as instructed by the Head Brewer. In order to help ensure all aspects of this position are performed as expected, measurable metrics will be provided along with regularly scheduled performance reviews. This position reports to the Head Brewer.
- This is a permanent full-time position that will rotate every 2 weeks between brew shifts and cellar shifts. Shift start times dependent on workload.
- 1st shift typically begins between 4:30 am and 6:00 am.
- 2nd shift typically begins between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.
- You may be asked to work a “4-day, 10-hour” schedule during the busy season.
- Primarily M-F, but you may be asked to work weekends.
- Willingness to work in other departments (Cellar, Packaging) as needed
Responsibilities
- Act as an integral part of the production team, making in the moment decisions in absence of Head Brewer, to create a high quality product that is consistent with Hi-Wire’s brand
- Stage materials and prepare for brewing according to set recipes and schedules
- Monitor brewing processes while maintaining quality standards
- Follow SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and best practices for brewing/cellaring operations in a safe and efficient manner
- Notify Head Brewer of any abnormalities that come up while brewing/cellaring
- Maintain an organized, sanitary, and safe work area by cleaning up messes, keeping tools organized, and sanitizing tools before they come in contact with product
- Perform CIP (Clean-In-Place) of brewing vessels, tanks, process lines and mill, including assembly and disassembly of process lines and loops
- Mix and use chemicals safely, using the appropriate chemical for each task
- Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of process equipment
- Input various data points into the softwares used by the department
- Perform light duty mechanical adjustments; manually or with small hand tools (involving Maintenance Manager as needed)
- Communicate and work with other departments as necessary to meet objectives
- Complete other tasks accurately as assigned by management within specified time frames
- Operate machinery following all safety guidelines in an efficient manner
- Help out as needed in all other parts of the brewery, such as cellar, packaging, and warehouse

- Have availability for nights, weekends and some holidays as needed (shifts will rotate on a 2 week basis)

- 2 years of brewing or cellar experience required
- Keen eye for proper brewing technique
- High level of self motivation
- Demonstrated problem solving/analytical ability
- Demonstrated ability to be successful in a collaborative team environment
- Highly effective multi-tasker
- High level of attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong overall understanding of safety procedures, regulations and requirements, including forklift operation
- Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to continually lift 65 pounds
- Must have the ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, work from heights, stoop, kneel and crouch
- The ability to work near moving parts and machinery
- The ability to work in loud, wet, cold, hot, indoor and outdoor environments frequently
