Position: Kitchen Manager/Cook

We’re looking for a Kitchen Manager to join our adolescent behavioral health facility, preparing healthy, balanced meals for our students. BlueRock Behavioral Health is seeking a Kitchen Manager/Cook in Bat Cave, NC to plan and prepare our weekly menu and meal services. The Kitchen Manager oversees the operational compliance, upkeep, and improvement of our commercial kitchen. This role is ideal for a highly organized, solution-focused professional with kitchen experience, budget creation and management, meal planning, and a passion for food.

Who We’re Looking For:

A strategic, hands-on Kitchen Manager who can create and prepare healthy meals for our residents while managing a budget with a strong focus on maintaining sanitary excellence. The ideal candidate is a motivated multitasker with strong communication skills, leadership experience, and a deep understanding of residential treatment operations.

About the position: The Kitchen Manager is responsible for creating the weekly menu and preparing all meals for the clients and staff at BlueRock Behavioral Health. The unique job functions outlined are designed with a focus on health, wellness, quality and compliance. At BlueRock, we believe that wellness begins with a balanced diet and our Kitchen Manager possesses the skills to create well balanced, nutritious meals. The Kitchen Manager serves as a role model for all clients and supports them with skill building and understanding of diet, foods and managing portions.

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

Adhere to safe food handling and storage procedures as required by the Henderson

County health department.

Assist in maintaining county certification as a Food Service establishment, and adheres to all requirements of this certification, particularly regarding kitchen cleanliness and food safety.
Ensure that the kitchen is well supervised, that kitchen rules and guidelines are followed,and that knives and any other potential hazards are kept locked and secured in a manner that residents do not have access to them.
Monitors kitchen facility/grounds for hazards and/or safety risks, and corrects potential problems where feasible. Communicates the existence of potential hazards to the facility manager and/or supervisor in an efficient manner to facilitate correction of problems.
Maintains healthy professional boundaries and appropriate relationships with residents.
Maintaining and operating a seasonal garden on site - for produce to be used in meal preparation
Creating and teaching a “Cooking Club” with a group of clients; focusing on kitchen skills, meal preparation, cleanliness, gardening, etc.
Attends necessary training modules as required.
Supporting, cooperating with, implementing and enforcing confidentiality of all data, including client, employee and company records and information.
Supporting, cooperating and abiding by agency policies and procedures including, but not limited to Incident reporting, Transportation policy, Infection control, Medication Administration, Safety and Security Policies, Off campus protocols, etc.

KITCHEN MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: To effectively manage the kitchen by doing the following:

Creates, Develops and posts monthly menu for all meals and snacks to support nutritional health and balance for students.
Oversees the preparation and serving of all meals in accordance with planned menu.
Supervises and maintains the kitchen area and any area associated with food services.
Supervise other food service staff as assigned and oversees their daily schedule and duties.
Works with Program staff to maintain schedules and logistics of food services.
Purchases all food service products including dry goods and manages food service budget
Enforces and is accountable for safety policies and take immediate corrective action to eliminate hazardous conditions and practices related to food services.
Creates policy and procedures around kitchen safety, health and nutrition of students.
Manages a seasonal garden with items to be used in meal preparation.
Engages students in 2x/monthly cooking groups
Interacts with all clients, staff and stakeholders with professionalism

Additional Responsibilities:

Ability to work independently and to prioritize tasks is required.
Performs other related tasks as may be assigned by the Executive Director or supervisor.
May require evening, weekend, and holiday work.
Is available as needed to assist Housekeeping staff.
Assists in obtaining quotations for supplies and/or equipment applicable to work duties.
Assists with purchase and stocking of maintenance supplies.
Assists in maintaining the facility in appropriate condition for all inspections/reviews by licensing and regulatory bodies.
