Plumbing Manager Position Summary
The Plumbing Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the plumbing department by leading and supporting field technicians, ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining high-quality workmanship, and driving employee development. This role combines leadership, operational management, estimating, and field support to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership
- Manage, supervise, and support the daily activities of plumbing technicians.
- Schedule and coordinate crews to maximize productivity and customer satisfaction.
- Provide coaching, training, and mentorship to help employees develop their skills and advance within the company.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
- Address employee concerns, resolve conflicts, and maintain team morale.
Customer Service
- Answer incoming customer calls and assist with service inquiries when needed.
- Ensure customers receive professional, courteous, and timely communication.
- Resolve customer concerns and ensure complete customer satisfaction.
Estimating & Sales
- Visit job sites as needed to assess work and prepare accurate estimates.
- Explain repair and replacement options to customers in a professional and honest manner.
- Follow up on estimates and work to convert opportunities into completed jobs.
- Identify additional service opportunities while maintaining customer trust.
Field Support
- Assist technicians on job sites when additional leadership or technical support is needed.
- Troubleshoot complex plumbing issues and provide guidance to field staff.
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards and applicable plumbing codes.
- Promote safe work practices and compliance with all company safety policies.
Operations & Management
- Oversee the daily workflow of the plumbing department.
- Monitor technician performance, productivity, and efficiency.
- Coordinate with office staff to ensure smooth scheduling and communication.
- Assist in inventory management and equipment oversight.
- Maintain accurate job documentation and reporting.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training new employees.
Employee Growth & Development
- Develop training plans for technicians at all skill levels.
- Encourage continuing education and professional development.
- Identify employee strengths and create opportunities for career advancement.
- Build a culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of plumbing experience (management experience preferred).
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Experience creating estimates and explaining repair options.
- Ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Proficiency with computers, scheduling software, and estimating software is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces when assisting in the field.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
