Position Summary: This position performs a variety of aquatics, recreation programming, climbing tower, cardio and weight room,
facility operations, administrative, and customer service duties to support the daily operations of the Recreation Department while providing safe, efficient, and high-quality services consistent with the City's values and mission statement.
Supervision Exercised and Received: This position works under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisors- Aquatics.

Essential Job Functions:
Aquatics
- Ensures the safety of facility patrons by preventing, recognizing, and responding to emergencies in and around aquatic facilities.
- Enforces all aquatic facility rules, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
- Performs lifeguarding, rescue, CPR/AED, First Aid, and emergency response duties in accordance with American Red Cross standards and the City of Aspen Aquatic Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Monitors pool operations, water quality, equipment functionality, and facility conditions; promptly reports and addresses concerns.
- Provides instruction for Learn to Swim, private lessons, water aerobics, American Red Cross courses, including lifeguarding, CPR, babysitting, and other aquatic programs.
- Assists in the recruitment, training, scheduling, mentoring, and daily oversight of aquatic staff.
- Provides leadership and direction to lifeguards, swim instructors, and other aquatic personnel to ensure safe and efficient facility operations.
- Assists with staff evaluations, training documentation, and ongoing professional development initiatives.
- Participates in and may facilitate in-service training, safety drills, and certification courses.
Guest Service
- Provides exceptional customer service to participants, visitors, and community members.
- Greets and assists customers, responds to inquiries, and resolves customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Provides accurate information regarding recreation programs, swim lessons, facility operations, policies, schedules, and registration procedures.
- Supports front desk operations, registration processes, and customer communications through phone, email, and in-person interactions.
- Assists with collecting, tracking, and reviewing customer feedback, surveys, and program evaluations.
Operations and Facility Maintenance
- Assists with opening and closing procedures for the facility as assigned.
- Performs routine cleaning, maintenance, inspections, and operational tasks necessary to maintain safe and efficient recreation facilities.
- Monitors and operates aquatic and recreation equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Identifies facility maintenance needs and coordinates appropriate follow-up with supervisory staff.
- Assists with event setup, equipment transport, and facility preparation for programs and activities.
Climbing Tower
- May oversee the safe operation of the climbing tower and related recreation activities.
- Ensures participants comply with safety procedures, equipment requirements, and operational guidelines.
- Conducts safety inspections and maintains climbing equipment as required.
Manager on Duty
- Serves as the Manager on Duty (MOD) during assigned shifts and provides leadership in the absence of supervisory staff.
- Addresses patron concerns, operational issues, staff needs, facility emergencies, and incident response situations.
- Makes operational decisions within established departmental guidelines and escalates issues as appropriate.
- Supports daily staffing coordination and ensures smooth facility operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: One (1) to two (2) years of experience in aquatics, recreation programming, customer service, facility operations, or a related field.
Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient in the following areas: Microsoft Outlook Email, Publisher and a basic understanding of computers and online computer-based technology applications, which include accessing web based platforms.
Licenses & Certifications
- When a driver’s license or commercial driver’s license is required for the position, must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.
- Either current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification and Water Safety Instructor certification or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of start date is required. Paid training will be provided at no cost to candidates who are not already certified.
- Must possess and maintain a current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.
Preferred Candidate:
- Candidates with current CPR/First Aid certification and bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English) are encouraged to apply.

- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is preferred.
