Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join the University Health Center. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the entire billing process, ensuring accurate and timely submission of claims, and maintaining clear communication with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients. Your expertise will help optimize revenue cycles, improve cash flow, and support the delivery of exceptional patient care. Duties

Prepare and submit accurate medical claims using billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
Review medical records and documentation to verify coding accuracy, including ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), and ICD coding standards.
Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims through effective medical collection strategies and resubmit as necessary.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify billing details or resolve discrepancies in medical records and documentation.
Maintain detailed records of billing activities, claim statuses, and patient accounts using Microsoft Office tools and specialized billing software.
Stay current with health insurance policies, coding updates, and industry regulations to ensure compliance and maximize reimbursement.
Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries related to billing statements and explaining insurance benefits clearly.

Skills

Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare claims processing.
Proficiency in medical coding including ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, DRG classifications, and ICD coding standards.
Experience working with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems and EHR (Electronic Health Records) platforms for efficient billing workflows.
Familiarity with medical billing software and healthcare claims management tools to streamline processes.
Excellent understanding of health insurance policies, benefits verification, and medical collection procedures.
Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong communication skills coupled with a customer service mindset to support patients and providers effectively.
