Overall Purpose
The job of District Translator is done for the purpose/s of providing English/Spanish translation services for district staff, teachers, students, and families to facilitate communication.

Direct Supervisor
Executive Director of Public Relations and Communications
Essential Functions
-
Assists the school system in communicating with students and families in understanding system and/or school requirements and processes for the purpose of supporting student learning and achievement.

Completes translation of documents.

Organizes interpreting services (parent/teacher conferences, open house, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the needs of families and schools.

Assists Parent Information Center for the purpose of registering non-English speaking families.

Provides technical support to schools for the purpose of accessing translated materials from the Department of Education (TransAct).

Translates critical information for presentation to parents on websites and other public venues.

Builds partnerships with local agencies (Catholic Social Services, UGA’s Romance Languages Department, etc.) for the purpose of developing a volunteer program for interpreting.

Responds to emergency needs for translation for all schools.

Requirements
High school diploma or GED equivalent
College training and/or academic preparation in both English and Spanish preferred
Bilingual and bi-literate in English and Spanish
Reliable transportation between sites
Physical Requirements
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally, the job requires 75% sitting, 15% walking, and 10% standing.
