About the Georgia Tech Library

The Georgia Tech Library is a member of the University System of Georgia library consortia, Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education (ARCHE), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL), and the Association for College and Research Libraries (ACRL). The Georgia Tech Library has a unique and progressive service model that relies heavily on technology and electronic formats. Electronic resources account for 79% of our overall content, 98% of the Library's content expenditures and 99% of our content usage and the majority of our print collections are held in a high-density, climate-controlled storage facility in collaboration with Emory University Libraries. The GT Library works to fulfill the mission and vision of Georgia Tech and is committed to supporting the Institute's new Strategic Plan. Job Summary

The Library (https://library.gatech.edu/) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for an early career professional to join the teaching team in the Academic Engagement department. The Research and Instruction Librarian is responsible for providing library-based research support to the Georgia Tech community, especially students, faculty and staff in STEM disciplines. Academic Engagement plays a vital role for the library and the institution in supporting the research and learning of Georgia Tech students, faculty, and staff. The Research and Instruction Librarian will teach the Georgia Tech community in information, multimedia, and/or data literacy skills. The Research and Instruction Librarian will develop classes and workshops to adjust to a changing technological environment and create asynchronous learning materials to reach users at their point of need. Worksite location is Atlanta, GA.

This is a 12-month faculty position with an effort distribution of 80% librarianship, 10% scholarship, and 10% professional service to the library profession. Up to two (2) years credit for previous professional experience may be given at the time of employment, in which case such credit will be stated in the offer letter. The Georgia Tech Library Faculty may enjoy flexible work schedules, professional development, and a healthy work-life balance. This is not a remote position, but some teleworking hours is supported.

Responsibilities

Provide and improve library services and resources; enrich the research, learning, and scholarship of the Georgia Tech community through the following:

80% Librarianship

Design and deliver library instruction by applying best practice design principles to create effective learning experiences through in-person, hybrid, or online modalities.
Supplement in-person instruction in Academic Engagement for multimedia, data, or information literacy skills.
Collaborate with Library colleagues and faculty to integrate various literacies (data, information, digital, multimodal) into the curriculum.
Create online tutorials, interactive modules, or virtual workshops.
Collaborate with Library colleagues to provide research support services to the Georgia Tech community including students, faculty, staff and other affiliates and develop a working knowledge of the information needs of the STEM fields that are part of the curriculum.
Represent the library and engage with campus communities.
Work with Academic Engagement colleagues to create and maintain departmental workflows and documentation to enable knowledge transfer.
Stay abreast of educational technology trends and tools as well as the library profession overall by pursuing professional development opportunities.

Foster positive relations with faculty, students, and staff and promote the Institute and Library's commitment to the Georgia Tech values.

Contribute to the profession through service to professional organizations at the local, state, regional, and national levels, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

This position vacancy will be filled at the rank of Librarian I. The final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Non-tenure Track Academic Faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2.2 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook ( https://www.policylibrary.gatech.edu/faculty-handbook/3.2.2-non-tenure-track-academic-faculty-members-hiring-and-promotion-guidelines)

Librarian I/Archivist I

Appointment to this rank requires an appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited master's degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.
Additional expertise and/or experience may be required for specific positions.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in academic libraries.

Demonstrated ability to promote a welcoming educational/work environment.

Proposed Salary

This is a benefits-eligible position with a minimum salary of $71,260 commensurate with education and experience.
