Full Job Description

A growing, industry-leading provider of critical power solutions is seeking an experienced Field Service Manager to lead the daily operations of a high-performing field service team. This role is responsible for driving operational excellence, developing technicians, ensuring exceptional customer service, and achieving key financial and performance objectives. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong technical background in generator systems or related power equipment and a passion for building high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Talent Development

Recruit, onboard, coach, mentor, and develop a team of field service technicians.
Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching, and identify training opportunities to improve technical capabilities and overall team performance.
Foster a culture of accountability, safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Partner with recruiting and leadership to maintain appropriate staffing levels and minimize technician turnover.

Service Operations

Manage the day-to-day scheduling and dispatch of technicians to maximize utilization, response times, and customer satisfaction.
Oversee preventive maintenance programs, emergency service calls, repairs, and warranty work to ensure timely completion and quality execution.
Monitor workflow, work order completion, and service backlog while identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
Ensure accurate documentation of service activities, labor hours, and materials used.

Technical Leadership

Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues, providing troubleshooting support both remotely and in the field.
Review repair recommendations, estimates, and service documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Work closely with technical support teams to identify recurring issues and implement long-term corrective actions.
Promote best practices for equipment maintenance, diagnostics, and repair procedures.

Customer Relationship Management

Build and maintain strong relationships with customers through proactive communication and responsive service.
Resolve customer concerns quickly and professionally while ensuring a positive service experience.
Partner with sales and operations teams to support customer retention and identify opportunities for additional service offerings.

Safety, Compliance & Quality

Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and industry standards.
Conduct regular safety meetings, vehicle inspections, and quality reviews.
Maintain accountability for fleet, tools, equipment, inventory, and facility operations.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service quality and operational consistency.

Financial & Operational Performance

Manage departmental performance against established budgets, revenue goals, gross margin targets, and operational KPIs.
Review technician productivity, utilization, billable hours, preventive maintenance completion, and work order cycle times.
Ensure payroll, job costing, and billing documentation are submitted accurately and on time.
Analyze operational metrics and implement action plans to improve profitability and service performance.

Performance Expectations

Success in this role will be measured by:

Building and retaining a high-performing field service team with minimal turnover.
Achieving technician utilization rates of 95% or greater while maximizing preventive maintenance completion.
Delivering revenue and gross margin results that meet or exceed monthly financial goals.
Maintaining accurate and timely payroll, job costing, and service documentation with a billing cycle of fewer than seven days.
Driving continuous improvements in technician productivity, technical development, and customer satisfaction.
Maintaining an outstanding safety record with zero preventable safety incidents and consistent compliance with company policies.

Qualifications

Minimum of five years of field service experience, with at least two years in a leadership or supervisory role.
Strong technical knowledge of commercial or industrial generator systems, power generation equipment, electrical systems, diesel engines, automatic transfer switches (ATS), switchgear, or similar industrial equipment.
Demonstrated experience leading technicians in a fast-paced service environment.
Strong understanding of field service operations, scheduling, dispatch, inventory management, and customer support.
Experience managing operational metrics such as technician utilization, productivity, revenue, gross margin, and service performance.
Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across customers, technicians, and leadership.
Proficiency with service management software, scheduling platforms, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office.
Technical certifications, EGSA certification, electrical certifications, or other industry-related credentials are preferred.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
